Ive been throwing the idea around lately. And I think its something Id like to do. Now I dont need anything serious. It will only be used for messing around. No hunting or anything. How much would I be looking at getting a descent crossbow? Id like to keep the cost down. Keep in kind I know nothing about crossbows or archery in general.

I think I found one. Seems like it will be good for messing around with. And its right over $200.

I have delt with them before. They sent me stuff all the way over in AFGHAN. Seems like a pretty good company.

That looks like a nice bow at a good price.
I own and shoot a Horton and a Ten Point. They are both good bows as well but the Ten Point's get to be a bit on the pricey side.
Horton will sometimes offer a combo style package with a quiver and bolts included that make a sweet set up for a good price.
I use crossbows for hunting deer in the late season in Ohio. It is much easier to handle a crossbow versus a conventional bow when you are wearing multiple layers of clothing to keep warm and dry. The learning curve of a crossbow is a no brainer, extremely easy to use and there is no need to practice diligently to stay proficient.

That looks like a great place to start. It's a good brand and the specs are good enough for hunting if you change your mind. I've been thinking about a crossbow since I found out Arkansas allows crossbow hunting for whitetail from Oct through Feb.

Made my first kill with it this evening. Nothing spectacular, just a button buck.
Swhacker 125gr 2¼" cut broadhead blew right through. I hope to find my bolt and broadhead tomorrow in the daylight.
I was sitting in my KILLZONE 2-PERSON CHAIR BLIND.....which I highly recommend.

20yd shot, and he went about 50yds before he piled up.

Now it's out to the barn to get busy. The work starts after the bolt flies.

I just bought a Barnett Predator. Thing is scary fast. It penetrates so deeply that I'm having trouble finding a target that allows easy bolt removal.

Try one of the many bag targets available. They are cheap, stop any arrow, and are great for initial sight in and general target practice.

When you want to shoot broadheads, shop around for a spyderweb or bone collector block target.

I have one block target that it blows right through but there was another one there that was twice the price ($164)...it may have been the type you mention. The one I have is made of compressed, stacked, bundled foam sheets. Can't go cheap on targets with these things.

I've got a "Black Hole" target that I've had for a while. It's fine for the vertical bow, but the X-bow blows right through it too.

The bag targets are cheap ($40 neighborhood) and will stop anything. Two finger arrow removal. You could even make your own.

Another home made target is made of squares of carpet, sandwiched in a stack like your foam block target. Another one that allows easy arrow removal.

Thanks. It was the third this year, and I've not fired a round through a gun in months.

I passed on another button tonight....twice! Silly little bugger was at my stand when I walked out. I got up within 30yds of him and he still didn't know I was there. After clicking off the safety, and leveling off scoping him out, I determined that he was indeed a button. I could have let the air out of him right then, but I decided to give him a pass. So since he still didn't know that I was there, I chose to scare him off easy, by walking down the path that paralleled him, and pretend that I didn't see him. He spooked out, and I got into my KillZone again. Twenty minutes later, here he comes again. He wandered all over in front of me for the next 30min. Unfortunately nothing else turned up. But I still have eight more days. I'll tag one more. wink.gif
