i generally NEVER ride my bike to work. it is too impractical for me. i usuallly grab fast food in the mornings on the way in, and i also usually grab fast food for lunch. that is not very conducive for riding. most of my riding is on the weekends; suit up and hit the mts. kind of thing.

i've been riding my bike some to work, and it's been so hot that i have come off my high horse of ATGATT (all the gear, all the time) and have been spotted riding in shorts and a t-shirt! ohmy.gif

that being said, and knowing that when riding a sprtbike that your shirt flies all the way up your back and you don't want to show the whole world you are carrying, what do you do? today i threw my g26 in my bookbag. i did not really like that idea, for some reason. i don't need an AD in my bookbag. unsure.gif i leave it in the holster, but it might wiggle out, or something, i dunno. i don't usually ride very sanely.

i don't like putting it in my bookbag, and i also hate the idea of putting it in my trunk even more. doh.gif

1. can't get to it if i need it (not that i can in a bookbag, but still)
2. if i carry the stainless 1911, it sure as shit ain't going in the trunk

i used to just carry my keltec when i ride, but i honestly hate that pistol with a passion and only keep it around for certain scenarios.....

what do ya'll do when ya ride?

Being in Akaska, even 60 degrees is getting pretty dang hot, but I wear my leathers. Sometimes I leave the air vents open and the vest under neath with the 1911 in a little pocket. One of my friends wears his cross draw front left in a clip on holster. I just purchased a Serpa level two retention holster with belt or clip on. It's secure and the pistol can't fall out no matter where I decide to clip it.
If I had one piece leathers I would maybe try that level II in a shoulder harness. It might work with or/WO leathers. In Alaska, if you have a concealed carry permit it's not illegal to carry it open or exposed. You just have a duty to let the trooper know you are carrying concealed under permit if that's the case.
Another option might be to carry the pistol inside your fairing in a holster velcroed similar to the old "horse pistols" on the saddle horns.
I would never ride up here in tee and tennis shoes. Not even in California as a kid did I fel that confident.

You can totally hit the drive thru on a bike. I used to do it all the time on my old GS750. You just have to substitute the drink for a frosty or something, that way you can toss it in the tank bag. They look at you really funny, but it works. smiley_smartass.gif

Back to topic...
I think Vtwyn had the best idea with the pancake holster inside his jacket. Maybe you could wear an ankle rig, and spin it around so the pistol is on the outside. I dunno, the few times I've carried, I just toss it in the tankbag. Not exactly quick access, but it's not like you're going to be riding and shooting matrix style. 'sides, if you go down, a pistol on your side is going to give you one helluva strawberry.

“Hence shall we expect the approach of danger? Shall some transatlantic giant step the earth and crush us at a blow? Never. All the armies of Europe and Asia could not by force take a drink from the Ohio River, or make a track on Blue Ridge in the trial of a thousand years. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men, we shall live forever, or die by suicide.”—Abraham Lincoln

Not to mention what it's going to do to that new pistol!

I have a holster I had made for my .22 Ruger Govmn't target w/red dot. It's kinda of a belly holster with a single strap over my shoulder. eaves the pistol at about 45degree angle (adjustable) or so, across the top of your belly/chest area. It rides there on a snow machine or the ATV, and quick on and off, or draw. It had a retention device in the "Alaska Wilderness" version, but it worked too well and I cut the extra crap off. The one I had made was leather and the "copy" is marketed in ballistic Nylon.

I was at the HD shop the other day and some fella had a cup holder on the handle bars of his scooter! Thermal cup and holder about 100.00. Whoood a thunk it!???

I just picked up my Spring 08 NRA store catalogue. It has quite a few deep concealment options from belly bands to tee's, and a vest or two from 60.00 to 200.00. I checked a couple of items for price angainst Sportsman's warehouse and the NRA stuff is a bargain like the Serpa holster with clip; 35.00. I paid 48.00 plus tax. Not a lot of difference, but maybe enough to give profit to the NRA, and still get a great deal.
There is another called "concealment.com" or "deepconcealment.com". for got which works.
Good luck.

Loaded Question here smiley_smartass.gif smiley_smartass.gif

Went for a ride a few months back when it was about 90+ and left the leathers at home.

Was cut off and crashed the donercycle on a highway going 60+ mph (last I knew flow of traffic was running about 70mph)

Without the 1/2 helmet I'd be dead, or worse..........Major impact on the right temple and ground off a huge chunk of helmet in that area.

Anywhoo, felt the CTAC getting ripped out of my pants & the Sig 239 went bounding down the highway head over appetite & came to a stop in the middle of the high speed lane (the one I was laying in)

Pictures of the Sig after a friend cleaned her up for me.

Now I've gotten a maxpedition jumbo and while I've yet to ride with a pistol in it to work (can't have firearms on the property) it works great for taking snacks and other crap to work & CCWing in the peoples republick of Boulder thumb.gif

Reviving a dead thread...

I've been mulling this over alot lately, and I'm thinking about trying a tactipurse. Maxpedition calls them "Versipacks". They would be secure, easy-ish access, and discreet, and importantly, they only have one strap, so if you wipe out you're less likely to land on something hard (say, a 1911) and paralyze yourself. They aren't exactly cheap, but I've used the crap out of my Maxpedition rifle case and have nothing but good to say about it.

That one or the Fatboy is what I'm looking at. I like being able to carry a nalgene bottle too. Makes it useful for light hiking, work, etc. Will it fit a 5" 1911 OK?

They do not come with a holster, but they sell one extra blink.gif blink.gif

However, with advice from another gun board (Sig forum) I went with a 5.11 holster instead of the one Maxpedition makes (it's not a holster, but more of a strap thing from the pictures) and it works for both my G19 and Sig 229 as that's all I've carried in it so far.

I got both the fatboy and the holster from La Police gear.

I use a Crossbreed Supertuck...and I wear it on my bike just like I do anywhere else. I have it tucked in-side my t-shirt so that even if my outer-shirt flies up you still can't see my pistol.
