What kind of cases do you guys use for your AR? I'm in search of a decent case for my AR. I was looking at the pelican cases, but they're pricey.

You get what you pay for. All my rifles are in Pelican/Storm (same company now), Boyt Harness or SKB hard cases. Why spend hundreds of dollars for a nice rifle and put it in a 20.00 cheap case? The rifle is an investment in you skill, pleasure or life saving, invest back into it.

After deploying with them, I have an absolute love for pelican cases. They aren't a joke, they hold up to ALL kinds of abuse.

I use soft cases. Look for ones that are Made in America.

One reason I like the soft cases, is that most seem to have spots for mags. Most hard cases require cutting out the shape. I have a few smaller pelican cases, and they're super burly. If I got a case, it'd have to be a discrete one and not angled up like some soft cases are. I don't want to stand out like a sore thumb If i'm carrying it out of my car. But I'd like a case where I can take it out quickly if the SHTF scenario. I'll have to take a better look at both and decide what would work.

QUOTE (Nwatson99 @ October 31st 2009 7:19 PM) Airplane rides, I use the SKB
Range and just transporting in a vehicle, I use the Tactical Tailor Dual Discrete Cases. I was pretty set on getting a tactical tailor discrete case, they're also local to me too. While trying to find some reviews, I found this guys review. http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?p=486998#post486998He's saying the internal mag pouches aren't very good and says the front pouch sags. He went as far as cutting out the front pouch. heh. "They are advertised to each hold “up to two” magazines, but perform poorly with Magpuls or even standard GI mags when doubled up (left and center), covering little more than half of the mag body, which impinges on the top edge of the outer pocket. A single mag fits deeper (right), but is almost too loose, sliding freely from side-to-side. There are no straps or flaps to retain the mags in the pockets." Does anyone here feel the same way about his review?

The mag pouches I do not use anyway, that is what my range bag is for.
I do not have a problem with the large front zippered pocket, it is roomy and can hold more items than just mags in it.
I have three dual cases and think they are top notch.

Suggest checking out the Galati XT Premium 1000D Cordura Nylon Rifle Case. The 35" model fits my Daniel Defense M4 like a glove and it's well padded and extremely durable. Doc

Pelicans are great for shipping or long term storage, a go to should be of the soft variety, there's a bajillion different manufacturers for softs, the better option if you don't want a case and range bag is to get a soft case with molle attachments outside so ya can put mag carriers out there

I picked up a black 42" covert case. For the price, it isn't that bad of quality. I wished the nylon was a little thicker, but for $109, hard to find something better in this price range.

I found a Blackhawk discrete case for $100 (w/ straps to hold the rifle in place as well as a seperate compartment with mag pouches, but I wasn't entirely convinced by the padding.
