This is exactly something I would like to try. But who will win, determination or apathy?
Well the cool thing is you can take as long as you like.
If you tend to be a bit apathetic you may not finish. I just got my bowstring made this weekend. So this one is pretty much complete with the exception of adding my handle wrap.
It's kind of addictive though, I've got my next two boards with all of the measurements marked out. Just waiting to get with my buddy to use his band saw and stationary belt sander again. (It makes things much easier and faster).

Here's another style I decided to try out. It turns out that the 1x2 red oak can be pretty brittle and the bow has to be really overbuilt to retain good draw weight and durability. I broke my attept at a kids bow for my daughter so now I tried a full size pyramid style bow and will next try to get one dimensioned for my daughter at about 20-25 lbs.
This bow is 67" nock to nock and pulls 50 lbs at 26 inches and 55lbs at 28 inches. It's bulky looking, but puts arrows where I look and is much faster than it looks. I just finished the sanding on it, and will be putting a finish on next, but figured I could post some pictures of where it's at right now.
There's a good build a long that I used, posted at the Trad Gang forums.
Here it is completed and strung:
