Good afternoon, and thanks for the very good site.

I just bought my first 10mm for $300. It's a very early blued Delta Elite pre-enhancement, post cracking fix. Seems you can special order guns to Guam but getting ammo is a royal pain; thus, it ain't been fired much. It's beyond mint so I'm pretty happy with the purchase.

All is well, except getting 10mm to this island is easier said than done. The local shops stock high turnover ammo (9, 40, 308, 12 g) but everything else is special order. I can get reloads so all is not lost.

Since I can't readily get 10mm, how hard is it to convert to 40 S&W? We're a little short on gunsmiths so keep that in mind. This is a short term fix as I transer next summer and don't want to wreck a very fine firearm.

Is there a drop-in replacement rod and spring in the market? This one still has the plastic rod.

The front site is the orginal thin metal post style. I'd like a good night site or something a little more visual. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the assist. I'm pacing back and force waiting for a chance to hit the range. I may wait until returning to the States for some of the fixes as S&H is another issue on the rock.

Welcome. anim_wave.gif

Congrats on the pistol. That is a great price for a Delta.

a) remove the "original" dual-spring Delrin "composition" guide rod setup. (Place them into a plastic bag and save them in the remote case that you wish to sell the pistol at a later date.)

b) Install a "full-length" guide rod;

c) intall a 24-pound Wolff Gunsrpings recoil spring;

d) install a 24-pound mainspring (hammer spring);

e) install a flat-bottomed, stainless steel EGW-brand firing pin spring retainer;

f) install the "fully-supported" (ramped) 10mm Match-grade barrel/bushing combination of your choice;

g) purchase/install the .40 S&W barrel/bushing/link that will fit your pistol (either drop-in or match-grade and fitted, your choice.)

f) Shoot away to your heart's content! No further modification to you pistol is necessary. Hang on to the old parts so that you can return the pistol to its original configuration if you plan on re-selling the handgun. Other than that, you are set to go out and have a ball!

Thanks much.

Good site for the springs. Do you have a recommended source of supply for the barrel/bushing and full length guide rod?

What is EGW? Plenty of references but I didn't see a homepage.

Ed: Here's how you reach Evolution Gun Works (EGW.)

http://egw-guns.com/store/

Brownell's can help you find the FLGR that you desire. (May I suggest sticking with stainless steel, as it is easier to maintain in your subtropical environment.)

I hope that this helps.

Thanks much for the welcomes.

And thanks for the parts link (s). I have a Witness 45 back in Texas that'll get a makeover soon. Come to think of it, that would be a great new TV show. Screw the hair, house, and car makeovers. Just think of "trick my handgun" or "Pimp My AK"... Instead of "wife swap" we could do "war-club swap".

Stainless sounds good and I'll heed your advice. Everything not coated in grease rust on this island.

I am still amazed that someone shipped it out here without checking for a source of ammo first. Heck, it's been here so long they thought 300 bucks was a good price.

If all goes well, I'll be at the range in 2 hours.

SMAtypeMK, Ed, Welcome to 10mmTalk! welcome.gif

That Colt Delta Elite with a makeover should be sweet! Good luck with the "Pimping Jobs" and getting the ammo.

Take care! thumbsup.gif

Bear in mind that for most shooters, the 10mm Auto is an "experienced" shooter's cartridge. For most of the people on this board it is a passion. We hope that you have risen above the "hoi-poly" that sees the 10mm Auto as a "fringe" cartridge. For those of us with ages of shooting experience the 10mm is EXTREMLY versatile, and therefore, lovable. It adapts to more shooting situations/scenarios than almost any other handgun cartridge in our batteries. This is why we love it so.

Welcome to the club!

Scott

Made it to the range today. Man, this thing drives as good as it looks. I'll swap out the plasitc half-rod and springs soon and let you know how the rest goes.

I had an offer to sell a 45 today. Is it un-ethical to use the money for 10mm rounds?

Congrats on your choice in hanguns and the super price.

I would not change the sights on the gun. I have a delta that I changed to a adjustable sight set up which involved changing the front sight too. I wish I had kept it original.

I would find a drop in 40S&W barrel and shoot low cost FMJ amm till you get back to the States.

Then I would do what I do now, reload all my 10mm ammo.

I hope you enjoy your gun for many years.
