I have written before that I believed blue Delta Gold Cup pistols were rare, and that I had heard that only 300 or so were manufactured. I received a letter from Colt today that says that information is incorrect.

The letter states that a single limited run of approximately 800 pistols of this model (mod. 05810) were manufactured in 1991.

So, my pistol is one of 800, not one of 300. It is still somewhat rare, just not as rare as I'd been told, so if you see a blue Delta Gold Cup out there remember it is one of just 800. There are thousands of stainless ones. Grab it if you can!

Thanks

Thats good to know. I came across two of them a few years back at a local fun show. Guy wanted 2K for each. Kinda out of my price range. I had to do a double take to make sure what I was seeing was what I was really seeing. thumb.gif

I also heard years ago that only 300 of these were manufactured. It was supposed to have been the smallest regular production run Colt had ever done; wonder if that's true. I had two at one time and sold the one that was NIB for $1800. People must hold onto them, because I only remember seeing two others for sale. I think they are much better looking that the stainless.

I really wanted the stainless model when I bought mine but could not find one anywhere, so I settled for the blue model. Sometimes your bad luck is really good luck in disguise...

At what point would you all say that a gun is "rare"? When there is less than 1,000? Less than 100? What's your opinion?

Anything less that 2000 or so would be my guess.
