Yes they did make it in 10mm. I have a few boxes left from the Balck Talon pre-ban days.
Last I looked it was about $45-$60 shipped for NOS. Unless you area collector, there is other ammo just as effective.

It's a minor point given how long ago it was but there was never a ban. Winchester decided to take the Black Talon off the market because of all the media hype. They re-introduced it as the Ranger line with brass jackets on the bullets instead of the black coloration. Look at an expanded Ranger bullet and you will see the same "talons" that started all the fuss.

True, no ban on the ammo. I have 1.5 boxes of it. Where are you finding the ammo now?

You may be right. I can't remember now which came first, the Ranger or the SXT.

I'd like winchester to offer the SXT as a component for reloading. I've gotten a few from .40s&w loadings. But then I have to find someone to give the .40 cases to. wink.gif

Winchester Ranger T. Guess what the "T" stands for? You won't find it at walmart but some LE distributors will sell to the public. And they don't make a 10mm.

Winchester produced the Black Talon in 10mm (200gr, around subsonic velocities). After the decision to sell the ammo only to law enforcement due to ridiculous hype by the media, AMA, and other handwringing wussies, Winchester produced the same bullet, loaded in a plain brass case (BT used nickel brass), under their Ranger LEO brand.

Winchester is the manufacturer; Ranger is a brand; SXT and Black Talon are products. There are several varieties of ammo, including 'vanilla' JHPs and FMJs sold under the Ranger brand.

Winchester stopped making the Ranger 200gr SXT (Supreme eXpansion Talon) several years back; I still have 10mm SXT and BT and they chronograph very closely. The only time I've carried either is when I had a really gorgeous custom Delta as a barbeque gun and didn't want to batter it in the least. Modern .40SW (and modern 10mm) loads surpass the performance of the BT/SXT round.

I did really like the BT 180gr .357 and 250gr .44 though.....nice heavy thumpers.

I really don't know what the big deal is regarding the famed "Black Talon" bullets. ANY bullet from a 10mm shot into someone's chest cavity is going to cause major problems for the receipient of that bullet(s).

Save your money and use it instead on a less expensive 10mm bullet. I'd rather buy more bullets in bulk instead of a limited amount of "black talons" or brand "x"................

Two 10mm rounds in one's heart... won't make a darn's worth of difference what type of bullet it is............ There's just way too much hype and advertising for each brands "super-wazoo-plutoneum-nuclear tipped- 10mm hollow point bullet.

Just my .02cents worth of opinion.

I never cared much for the Black Talon stuff. If I buy new ammunition it will be Double Tap or Buffao Bore. The Wichester Black Talon was never that mugh of a "stellar" performer.

The primary desires these days are due to its "collectability" nothing more.

As a factory load the specs were a 200gr SXT at 990fps. Ho-hum.... The 14 boxes above are just the ones I haven't gotten around to pulling and re-loading to 1200fps. I have another 20 boxes of those. They really are devastating in wet phone books when driven to velocity - the talons do cause a kind of damage other JHPs do not. Maybe they work better in flesh, too? Who knows. I use them now for hunting and have killed a hog and an elk with one. They are a novelty - but I like them, and came across nearly three cases a number of years ago at a gun store whose staff didn't realize what they were sitting on. $19 a box - I bought them all.

That's AWESOME! When I got out of 10mm, I still had a few boxes left, and got $50 a piece for 'em! really.gif I STILL carry 'em in my .45. smiley_smartass.gif

Have you thought about pushing them up to Norma or Hornady strength yet - say 1,465 fps+? As a FULL HOUSE LOAD in 10mm, I gotta believe, it would be the closest thing out there, to a Star Trek phaser on setting 16! ohmy.gif
