Is it the ammo or the gun?

Tried some Double Tap 180g loads for the first time today. Both Match and the Bonded HP. Must say I was disappointed in the Match as far as accuracy went. I managed only a 4.75" 9 shot group at 20 yards with a recently put together G20T long slide. With a near stock G20 the same ammo managed a 3.5" group at the same distance. Out of the G20 the Bonded HP did a little better at the same distance by grouping 5 rounds into 3".

I may be getting to old and busted up to do this anymore (LOL) but I was not too impressed. I have to dig out one of the 45 ACP 1911s I still have and shoot a group at the same distance and see if I can still put 5 rounds into 2" or there abouts. I need to test the 10mms again with some other ammo too.

Willing to admit it might be me or the Glocks but I'm not sure the DT ammo is worth the high price. I do give them credit for doing the near impossible...getting higher velocities than the big name factories at reasonable pressure and light recoil. The fired brass looked fine with no bulges or flattened primers. And, I was expecting much more recoil but even the Bonded HP was very pleasant to shoot. Just wish I could have hit better with it.

Maximum loads are rarely the most accurate, but realistically, how accurate do defensive loads have to be? One thing is for certain, no felon is going to notice the difference between a 2" and a 5" group when shot.

Right way's the hardest. Wrong way's the easiest. A rule of nature like water seeks the path of least resistance. So you get crooked rivers and crooked men. Sheriff Hank Pearson (Rip Torn) in "Extreme Prejudice"

I'm well aware that maximum loads are not generally as precise as match loads. Guess it was the name "Match" on the FMJ load that I was really disappointed in. And I still was expecting better accuracy from the 10mm. Like I said, maybe it's me or the Glocks and not the ammo.

Sorry, Dave. The part about the 180 gr Match didn't register when I read it. I've shot that particular ammo out of my Smith & Wesson 1026 and found it to be quite accurate so I can't explain the disappointing groups you got with it.

I never had good luck with the match either with my Glocks. The 165 grain GD's were the most accurate for me.

Well the G20T came back from Robar for the second time and I got to shoot it this AM. Glad to say it functioned with the 4 different factory loads I have on hand. Not so glad to report I continue to get poor accuracy from the Double Tap loads. I shot five shot groups at 20 yards, from a rested forearm position. Loads tested were Hornady 180g XTPs, Winchester 175g Silvertips, Double Tap 180g Match and 180g Bonded HPs.

Hornadys put 5 in 2". Silvertips went 2.75". I was thinking the gun was really shooting better than before...then I tried the DTs. 180g Match only managed 5 in 5". The 180g Bonded HP were better with a group of 3.75" but still a little disappointing.

Really want to try 200g as I always thought that was the optimum load for this cartridge. Read a lot of Cooper back in the day (smile).
