i got my house broken into last month. no one was home because i went out with a buddy to bangor and he was iffy about my gun so it stayed home in a lock box under my bed and my wife was at the book store (her hang out). they took my mp3 player $875 and my old ccw permit that was in a wallet with a badge. but the tard never looked under my bed thank god. but i will never leave my my gun at home alone or keep a permit in any thing but my wallet. i would not go for the badges you see for ccw in the back of gun mags all they do is make you a target!

Why in the world would yout buddy know you were carrying a concealed firearm? Glad it wasn't stolen, but it doesn't do you any good when it's at home and you aren't.

You should really look into getting a safe Skerky. It has been an ease at mind for me ever since I got one.

If a full size safe is out of the budget, look at one of those Gunvaults, you can find them for $100.

Just my two cents, I hope you don't have to go through that again.

I agree with the safe issue. A $700 safe can safe $100,000 worth of guns. (I know it saved mine once!!)

I'm not a big one to worry about others when it comes to carrying. The onus is on me not who is with me if it is a problem. The permit/badge combo can be a factor in "confusion" with some people. They see a badge and they think you are an LEO and that you should "do something" if something is going on at the time. There are times when nonparticipating is the best course and others when it is necessary to intervene. I'm a retired LEO but my mind set still thinks "intervene" and I play "what if" constantly when I am in the public arena. I've got a pretty good idea of what I will do in most circumstances. Now if I can keep the rubber from meeting the road I might never find out but the world will dictate that not me. (Wow, I'm in the Not Me Generation!! LOL)

What it comes down to in my mind is carry if you can and be secure in your decision if you choose not to.

I don't have friends who aren't comfortable with firearms. Acquaintances, yes, but I don't travel with them.

I don't even have acquaintances that aren't comfortable with firearms. It's frankly none of their damned business, the only time it would be, is if I'm in their home. If they express displeasure about my gun in their home, I'll be glad to remove it, I'll remove myself and my gun.

Take your friend out to the range and teach him the proper way to shoot. Go through the fundamentals first. Let him practice a few times with your weapon unloaded! Then show him what the recoil is going to be like and how the weapon will react when fired by throwing some lead downrange while he observes. Next let him do it himself. Make sure you go throuth the hole "how to aquire a correct sight picture and no matter what happens ALWAYS keep the weapon pointed DOWNRANGE until empty speech (trust me thumbsup.gif ) I bet he will like it! Explain why you carry a weapon and that its not to look bad ass or anything ,but to protect yourself and others from harm if need be (hopefully never will). After that if he still insists on you not carrying your gun while with him ,then dont let him see it or ...
Its your right that our forefathers fought ,shed blood and died to secure ! Its that same right that men and women fight ,shed blood ,and die everyday (unfortunately) to keep secure for you and HIM! Tell him to grow up and get over it. JMO

about a month ago i was riding with my friend and he went to pass some one who was driving realy slow and when we pulled around him he crossed the line and tried to put us in the ditch and later up the road at a stop sign he pulled up next to us and 2 or 3 of the started to get out of the car but my friend took off. about 3 min after asked me if i had my gun on me (i know its none of his business) and i told him no because it make use feel uncomfortable. and that's the day he changed his mind lol. and it was (to me) a very unlikely that the out come of this little stunt would have ended with drawing my gun.
