Hi I am new to this page, although I have been roaming around it the past few months not registered. I am about to make my first 10mm purchase, a g29, and plan to get an aftermarket .40 s&w barrel. My dad just bought a lone wolf for his g23, but it was pretty inaccurate....way less than the factory. I just wanted to know if one drop in barrel was better than another. I was thinking going with storm lake, as they aren't too expensive(college student). Also where is the best place to buy accessories, such as the pearce grip extensions and ammo. I have heard mike at double tap is swamped and not returning email, is this true or should I go ahead and order from him. Also my woods load will be lead most likely, as long as I keep the factory barrel clean is lead ok? sorry for the long post..... i love this site, and it was this site that convinced me to sell the .44 and go 10!

p.s. where do yall buy your barrels?

Well I went with the Storm Lake 40S&W for my G-29 and it has been very accurate and function has been supurb. The chamber has great support and is tight. Beaware of 40S&W brass which is shot from loose chambered, as they develop a bulge on some right at the extactor cut. Standard reloading dies don't get down that far to iron this out, but Redding does make a new "push thru die" that will remove and size the brass down to proper dimentions. This will improve the feeding problems which some people experience using 40's with tight chambers.

The best would probably be a Bar-Sto or a KKM, which I have neither. I got a EFK just because they are only ones that made extended barrel for G29 but accuracy is not that great.

keith97, I could agree with the KKM, but the Bar-Sto used to be a quality product, some of their stuff has been poorly QC'ed and overly priced.

Have any of yall done business with topglock or glockworld? I thought about ordering a storm lake barrel from them(only $119), but I have heard bad things about all the sites run by TGSCOM.

I have only ordered from them once and due to supply issues my order ended up being split. All of the items listed as in stock were not. The first half of my order shipped in about 10 days. No big problem with that but the second half after they packaged it for shipment they totally forgot about. It took several calls and about a month wait before it finally shipped.

Shadow, what kind of groups are you getting out of that 40 s&w storm lake barrel?

Shooting with the 40S&W Storm Lake conversion barrel in the G-29 I put 30 rounds inside a 4" circle at 40 Yards, these were handloaded Lyman 175 gr TCBB cast bullets with 8.4 grains of Blue Dot @ 1030 fps adv. This I consider pretty damn good for a 3.78" barreled pistol with open sights.

I am about to order my g29 the end of this week. I am getting the night sites, are the glock night pretty good or should I put the extra 60 bucks towards another brand? And Shadow, how do you have your g29 set up? Any aftermarket stuff besides the barrel? I was particularly wondering if I should replace the recoil spring with a heavier one. I am of the mindset that glock makes very reliable pistols(above average), so why replace something that glock engineers deemed adequate. Correct me if I am wrong, and if added parts would enhance my pistol or make it more reliable.

Moose, Currently I have it set up with the Wolff Gun Springs (non)captured recoil system, this is a two piece recoil rod and dual spring set up. The spring rate is 21lb for this set up. The 23lb I find too heavy, even the 21lb is fairly heavy.
I carry the pistol with the 21lb recoil system & Factory 10mm barrel, with 200grain Hornady @ 1180fps.

It needs to be understood that the use of the heavy springs will make it tougher to rack the slide, to clear malfunctions or jams in a stressful situation.

I don't have Night sights, according to most self defense courses, there is about a 20 minute window of time, early morning or evening which the night sights provide benefits. In extreme low light they can obscure your vision beyond the sights. Unless you are hunting during this time, you would be better off with a good Flash Light either mounted or hand held for target ID and acquisition.

Just got my g29 in today, woohoo!!! Was wondering if I put a 29 lb spring in her, will i have any trouble shooting less powerful loads or even .40 s&w loads when i get a conversion barrel? (will I have to change the spring everytime i put the .40 barrel in)

Moose, I can answer that for you, I use the Wolff 21lb spring and their non captured recoil rod in my Glock 29, I also used it with the Storm Lake 40S&W conversion barrel with my reloads without any problems. This is mostly with 175 grain cast going 1035fps as measured over the Chrony.
