The real reason for new calibers is simple, sell more guns. It is a conspiracy to empty your wallet. tf.gif

I have a new gun policy. When you have so many calibers you have to stop and count them, then its time to stop buying new calibers. thumb.gif

Where's the fun in always shooting the same two calibers though? For the bulk of my training I use 22 LR (AA kit), when caliber or energy become a factor (@ classes and such) I use a G17 with the magical low cost 9mm Blazer, switch to my G17 Lone Wolf barrel and shoot 147 gr. cast bullets to plink, and stuff in some factory Gold Dots for storage. Hell, I'm even thinging about buying a G19. So it's not that I don't like the nine. But I carry a .40. I don't even use a .40 frame to run a conversion, so frame life's not an issue. Then if you told me I had to, I could swith to my 21sf, or pop in a .40 Super barrel, or just take a (mostly) stock G20. Some like consistancy, some like variety. I like to mix it up.

Hey, God forbid I ever have to leave Alaska (might in the near future, but I'm going to fight it) and end up in some crap box state that only allows 10 rounds, I might get a G38 in the ol' .45 GAP (hows that for a conversation starter?)! If you read above you know the 19/23/32/38 is my favorite size Glock. Just fits my hand perfect.

Oak, I do like the way you think. Post the data for us at regular intervals!

I'm brewing up some oatmeal stout with my buddy tommarow, but going for for Midnight Sun Panty Peeler when I get home. It's a Belgian-style tripel with 8%AC. Anybody in Alaska or coming to Alaska has to hit up Midnight Sun. They brew killer beers. But then again theres a few places in town that do!

Oatmeal Stout! A manly choice indeed. The drink of Vikings, Spartans and William Wallace. "You may take our lives, but you will never take our beer!" I salute you sir! That Triple Bock sound kick ass. Long ago I used to go bar hopping with some friends and I would try to drink as many different micro brews and imports as possible. I learned an important lesson. Wheat stout and my stomach do not agree. laugh.gif

I have 9mm, 357SIG, 40 S&W and 45 ACP and they have different values in my humble opinion. I have shot them many times one after another (with the same brand ammo, Federal) at the range and this is my two cents worth …

9mm - low cost of operation, highest capacity Back Up Gun or Conceal Carry Weapon - great for those that prefer a lot of fire power (loaded with Federal LE +p+) and low recoil - ideal for the ladies.

357SIG - extremely accurate, high capacity, best utilized where maximum penetration is desired - a great round for protection in the car.

40 S&W - hotter velocity ballistics than a 45 ACP with the 40 cal bullet weight but without the penetration issues of the 357SIG - great mid-range home defense.

45 ACP - the hardest hitting short to mid-range round ever - the best potential "one shot stop" round for home defense and the bad guys respect them.

laugh.gif , that is funny.

I love my .40's and I can control the extra muzzle jump for quick follow up shots. I have yet to shoot a 10mm, but I will get one hopefully in the near future. I have no prejudice towards any cartridge, I love all of them! I'll admit though, some are more fun to shoot than other!

Muzzle jump could also be tamed by a heavier gun, better/higher grip....dare I say stronger wrists. unsure.gif

BTW- AKman, sounds like you know your .40 in and out, good choice! and this LEO can hit what he shoots at! wink.gif

Seriously, muzzle jump from a 40? I have two auto's, one in 45 and one in 40. I see no reason to have a 9mm since I want to kill/stop what I hit. I have a 357 and I'll take that over a 9 any day. I guess I don't have sissy wrists either since my 44 treats me well. wink.gif

"I want to kill/stop what I hit" huh...

You must have outstanding shot placement. The 9mm is perfectly capable of putting someone down, but it isn't going to blow a friggin' arm off.

I already own a 357, 40, 45 and 44mag, why would I need a 9mm? All of those rounds are more deadly than a 9, so why should I bother?

More deadly? How so? What makes them more deadly than a 9mm? Why is more deadly a good thing?

Let's see some proof of this statement.

And don't ask me to prove my point of the discussion....you're making statements, back them up with facts (and not what the guy at the gunshop told you). Let's pretend I'm a new shooter for a few minutes, humor me.

i'll bite. but before i do, understand where i'm coming from because i know your stand on the 9.

but as i bite, i'll ask YOU a question. do you not think a .44mag is more deadly than a 9mm?

i hunt with a .44 mag. i would never consider hunting with a 9mm. the .44mag has got to have more velocity, more kinetic engery, therefore more stopping power. right?

i'm not insulting the 9, but it is not the most powerful pistol cartridge on the market.

point taken. i guess we are headed down two different paths now. the 9mm is an awesome CCW round, but it is not the most powerful/deadly round available. period.

Well then why not get a .460, .500 S&W, .50 AE to replace that sissy 44 of yours? No offense Stu but you're using a totally different argument here. Nobody buys a 9mm to kill an elk, People DO buy 9mm for self defense, which it is completely suitably for.
