I thought this would be fun as well as educational.

Many of us buy paracord in qty and for me anyway, it has become my go to line. I find it's high strength, small size, yet still easy on the hands a real plus.

My most severe application was as an anchor line. Anchoured down one night in high winds I had both of my anchours, main and storm, out and still the wind was pulling my boat. I had just bought a new 24lb river anchor which I went to drop as well to discover my spare anchour line missing. I had used it to tow a cruiser the weekend before and the people on the boat had discarded my line to the bottom of the lake (long story) and promised to replace it.

With the two anchours off the bow in a "V" pattern, I laid the river anchor off aft to keep reduce the side to side swing. This anchour is designed to hold a 25 ft boat in 10 knot currents. It stretched the hell out of the 25' of paracord but it refused to break. I was pretty impressed.

When I was a teenager, I bought an old Impala that had been wrecked, and the hood wouldnt latch, so the guy who sold it to me went to his cruiser and pulled out a handfull of paracord. I left the paracord on for two days, until my dad kept getting worried it would break, so he fixed the hood so it would latch for me.

I have used it to lash down all kinds of stuff. We also used it as improvised OE254 antenna poles. Tie it to the antenna top, tie the other end to a rock, throw the rock over a high tree limb and presto antenna is up! If you need to pop smoke and haul ass lower it and haul ass.It can be braided to increase it's strength if you need to hang anything really heavy.

I always have trouble keeping the top to my coffee cups. So I started drilling a hole in the handle and one in the lid and using gutted 550 cord to tie them together! WOrks like a charm & can be put in the dishwasher w/o the wife complaining. I have a cup that its been on for the past 5 years.

I've used it to hang a hammock when camping. I know this doesn't sound like much but the force on the cord is over 1500 pounds with a 175 pound man in it. It really stretches too much so I think i'm going to order so spectra core line instead.

Recently I had to use it as a shotgun sling and as a way to work the windshield wipers of a Crown Vic with electrical problems due to water.
Also used it to tie up a boat or two.

PARACORD/550 CORD = a survivalist best friend!

I have used to to make a emergency liter , to move a injured hiker out of the woods ( S.A.R. ) lashed to long poles together , then weaved paracord the lenght between the poles for a platform..then covered with a blanket.

Bootlaces.

lashing down cargo.

emergency deer drag rope.

The wife weaved 7 stands together to make me a awesome weapons sling!!

used it to tie up a tailpipe on my truck, when the hanging clamp rusted an broke off... ( idiots at muffler brothers did not replace the clamp while replacing the exhaust system.)

there is no end to the uses of paracord / 550 cord ....

COLT!

I like the idea of the coffee mug lid keeper cord... going to give that a try this afternoon.

But then I got my Addax Gas piston AR. Sure I still have to keep a few small replacement parts, but I'll let you kick me in the balls for every malfunction I have with my Addax GPU, thats how reliable it is!

So far we are at, hold on, let me check..... ZERO!

I have a bunch of it that was cut out of an old chute when I was on AD. I use it for all kinds of stuff. Used it for a cord to close the barn door at my parents place, to bundle things together, have a bunch in my camper, the uses are endless!

Emergency?

Whenever I buy a new pair of boots I throw out the laces that came with them and in goes the para. When I was to lazy to cut some new laces I wore out Two pairs of boots with one paracord lace.

True my vietnam boots have green paracord in them right now. I said emergency because green paracord looks kind of funny in a pair of white sneakers. animlol.gif

Hi TJ!!!

Just wanted to add that I've got paracord hold the ENTIRE exhaust system of my '85 Oldsmobile to the frame of the car. This is in the middle of the winter, with ice, salt, and sand on the road and the paracord frequently gets ice sikles dangling off of it (or blocks of black dirty ice build up). So far it's held out all through almost half of the winter without a problem.

The exhaust fell off (two rear mounting brackets rusted clean off, and need to be replaced with new brackets & rubber mounts) on the freeway on my way home in October and I only had paracord to tie it back to the frame. Everything from the Catalytic Converter all the way back was dangling (and scraping) on the highway, and paracord fixed it (until I can afford to fix it permanently). I'll probably just replace the whole exhaust system from the CC back. (either that or buy a new car if I get a raise at work)
