We have a forum devoted to the M1 , and such. Why not talk about the other weapons. I just read somewhere that the German STG 44 is supposedly the grandfather of the assault rife. Being that it had a selector switch.. Anybody know anything else about it?

The StG 44. What a gorgeous and awesome firearm. I wish I had one.

Yes, it is the first "assault rifle." Hitler was actually very much opposed to it and had banned all R&D on it, but the Army wanted it so badly that they did they're own R&D under a different name and with a bit of secrecy. Once it was out and proved it's worth, the German SS units received more of them than the Wehrmacht. First to implement a "short" rifle cartridge, comparable to the M1 Carbine .30 cal ammo.

It basically threw all future battle rifles to a whole new level, an incredible jump in firearms technology.

The caliber was a necked down 7.92x57mm to 7.92x33. The projectile weighs 125 grains, and muzzle velocity is about 2300 feet per second.

Cyclic rate isn't that high, 'bout 600 rounds per minute.

Interesting note, Syria has a very large quantity of them aquired from the Russians back when they were the Soviets. Every once and awhile, you'll see Palestinians with them.

Sturmgewher "Sturm gewehr" in English translates to Storm Rifle. Saw it as part of documentary as one the best 10 rifles in Military.

PPSH-42, MG42, Tokarev, ,1911, STG-44, Thompson, M1919, Garand, and M1 Carbine would have to be my favorites from WWII. PTRS-41 is pretty sweet too.

Heres a few pics I found of the PPSH-41.

And the PTRS-41.

Ive used all these guns on CoD too. lol
