QUOTE (dead2sin @ November 14th 2009 5:25 PM) *
Ironically enough, I opened this thread and searched each page for KellyLTE's name to see if he had been stating his not-so-humble-and-always-correct-opinion. Yep, sure enough on page 5. I don't even need to look anymore, if some is asking about gear or some sort, KellyLTE will be here for us with the only correct opinion in existence.

Sorry for busting on you, but you have been extremely predictable as of late and I hope you know that you come off as being exceedingly arrogant. As G has said, gear is very personal and what works for one person might not work for another. Sure, there are generics that can be absolute and quantified (Aimpoints have longer battery life, etc), but anything beyond that on the topic of quality gear is up to the person using it.

I don't see anyone else wandering around here apologizing for posting their opinion, so I won't either.

However, I find it amusing that you took the time to create a post to say how 'not so humble' I am. I never claimed to be, conversely, I don't aspire to mediocrity. I don't buy cheap, I'd rather save up and do without than to use a substandard product. Conversely I approach every post that I make as if someone's life may depend on it. I don't generally regurgitate someone elses information unless A) that person is a vetted SME in the field in question, or B) there is sufficient evidence (anecdotal or empirical) to support the viewpoint.

I find that a lot of animosity comes from the fact that people make choices based on CDI, price or any number of factors and not based on experience. Or inapplicable experience. I don't know everything. Don't claim to. But I know some head cracking guys that know a lot more than you, me and a buncha other people do. And I'm smart enough to nowadays listen to them very closely. I try to pass that information on. But too often, that information reveals that people are making foolish purchases and they don't like feeling that way. Rather than change what they fncked up, its easier to take shots at me. Knock yourself out, doesn't bother me.

Don't like it? Don't read it. You always have the ability to click right on past.

Nah man, your opinion is not the problem. The problem is that you jump down everyone else's throat when they state their own opinion. Why don't you just not read what they write if you don't like it? Everyone here tries to remain as cordial as is possible, but with the way you are jumping on people for suggesting certain things (telling them "you clearly don't research", etc) is not really helpful to anyone, in fact it is unhelpful and not very constructive to the conversation. So in the end, you need to take your own advice and just not read stuff if you don't like it.

To mis-use a quote from Heinlein, "Stupid is stupid, faith doesn't make it smart".

Case in point. I see a LOT of people running around here recommending ARMS gear as if its the best thing since sliced bread, having never taken it into harms way. Heck *I* believed it at one point that, man, arms stuff is issued by the military it must be AWESOME.

And then I had a set of ARMS 22 rings fail on me during a match. Talk about pissed off.

Come to find out that ARMS has a horrible reputation, especially in the military community. Broken levers and parts, failed mounts, you name it. If I'd been smarter and gotten better advice, I'd have saved myself a lotta money by buying something better in the first place. I'm simply glad that ring failed when it did, during competition and not when I was trying to save my life.

Life is not a popularity contest, I don't have time to personally nurse the bruised egos of people of people making half-baked recommendations and decisions. Chopper says it best:

An excellent step would be to quit using cast aluminum:

Here's where this crap stops. We're not going to continue with attitudes that say "My opinion is better than yours, I know more, I've seen more, your opinion is invalid because I said so." That type of attitude is prevalent at other sites, and we don't cultivate it here. State your experiences, and move on. Running down other people's gear because they don't agree with a stated opinion is not the type of environment we've cultivated here. Further posts of this type will be considered as deliberate disruption of the site.
