That depends on why you're buying it. If you want a an investment piece or an heirloom that you take to the range once and a while, paying the extra $350 now will pay dividends if/when you sell it. If you want a shooter, get a service or field grade and use the money you saved to replace parts that will improve accuracy or function (trigger guard, springs and pins, etc) and and buy a crapload of HXP with the rest. Unless you are a serious collector a well-maintained shooter is the best way to go, IMO.

True. There is always the chance you will get all the correct parts anyway. A Service Grade will look great.

Negative. All's ya need is affiliated club membership, proof of citizenship and some sort of firearms training (match participation, CCW class, DD-214, etc etc) and the FedEx man will bring you a box of joy.

What if you have none of the above?

Then you can't order through the CMP. Everyone canjoin the Garand Collectors Club and that qualifies for the club membership. The info can be found on the CMP site. As far as training, there are lots of options, but you need to meet one of them.

If you have the permit, you should be good to go.

“Hence shall we expect the approach of danger? Shall some transatlantic giant step the earth and crush us at a blow? Never. All the armies of Europe and Asia could not by force take a drink from the Ohio River, or make a track on Blue Ridge in the trial of a thousand years. For those of you who can order through the CMP but have been putting off buying a Garand, look here:

http://www.thecmp.org/m1garand.htm

Look at the RM1Special and the RM1HRASSP.

The RM1Special is just like the specials sold last year. All metal refinished with a new CMP stock set and new barrel.

The RM1HRASSP is listed as excellent metal with new stock with new metal.

These are new listings that were just put up in the last week.

I know this is an old thread, but one of the other recent threads got me interested. Thanks James tongue.gif

Is there any advantage to one of these versus the other:

RM1SAS M1 Garand, SA Service Grade
Please allow 60 days for delivery
*See below for grade description
$595

RM1HRAS M1 Garand, HRA Service Grade
Please allow 60 days for delivery
*See below for grade description
$595

Also for a piece of history is it possible to request a WWII era one? Would there be any WWII era service grade garands left?

Either one is good. You can put a little sticky in asking for a WWII number, but you could just as easily end up with a Korean War rifle. Nothing wrong with that. It could even be newer.

An H&R is not WWII, by the way.
