Anybody have one, seen one, heard anything good or bad about one?

I'm considering a 9mm sub compact as an alternative to my S&W J frame (which I might give my wife) and I don't like the Glock because it's too chunky -- I want something thin. This gun is less than one inch thick!

Any recommendations?

Anything other than Taurus? The only Taurii that I've seen that I would trust, were the old Beretta copies. I've seen too many break, malfunction, and make good use of their lifetime repair policy to ever feel good about carrying one again.

I've held one. I liked it fairly well, but I want to hold a Walther PPS before I make any decisions.

We have sold several of them and have had no complaints yet! Ive heard they are good guns from a couple people and I think they are easily concealable.

In the 80's and 90's Taurus guns were getting great reviews in the gun rags, something I eventually attributed to the buckets of money Taurus was paying for advertising.

If I were going to be spending the money, I'd look at something from Kahr, or even another snubby to replace the one you're giving to the wife. Mouseguns can sometimes be somewhat problematic, no matter the manufacturer, and the revolver reliability is pretty hard to beat.

LOL!

Maybe mice are not very good with firearms in general. I mean, if they were, wouldn't they have taken over the world by now?

I believe they at least provide stainless magazines that are thicker gage. The one Taurus semiauto I had was a pos but it was mostly cheap, thin gage steel mags that would gall the casings. I would look at the PPS or Kahr PM9. More $ but more gun.

I had good luck with my PT145. I ran a few thousand hand loads and a bunch of other factory stuff through it, with nary a hiccup. If were going to get a small nine now I would get a Kahr. Just because they make one in stainless.

Alden -

I have one word for you.... RUN!!!! eekout.gif

however, if you're dead set on a PT709, I'll gladly sell you mine...it's GTG as long as you don't mind multiple FTE's w/every mag you put through it.

all joking aside...I've had really bad luck with mine. just trying to get rid of it at this point... I know someone will come along & defend their 709, but mine has been a total POS.

after owning several of their guns, I can honestly say, "Taurus is like a box of chocolates..." (you know the rest... wink.gif )

hope this helps...

I guess Im one of the people who has had good luck with their Taurus guns. My PT101 (Or PT100, cant remeber) shoots fine. Only things I dont like are the mags that seem to get rust on them easily, and the finish isnt perfect. But function wise, its never failed me.

I've seen ONE Taurus gun worth it's metal. A 62C .22 pump-carbine.

Every other Taurus I've come across has had issues (from broken firing pins after only 60 rounds to cylinders out of time to trigger pulls a gorilla couldn't press).

Ya pays your money and takes your chances, but my money will go to a different company because I think my chances are better.

I have had 4 Tauri. PT99 I bought used in the mid 90's. Ran many 1000's of rounds through with no problems. M44 revolver, ran great for 4 years till the cylinder fell off. Fixed for free and seems fine. unsure.gif PT1911 Ran fine once I removed the firing pin safety plunger. PT 145 no problems. Batting 500.

You are referring to double action mode. If you can find a gunsmith to work on it, it will cost several hundred. Or you could buy a Smith and Wesson.

hmmm... I'm gonna respectfully disagree on this one. wink.gif

you can get a trigger job done by most gunsmiths for around $100-$150.

and all the S&W's I've handled/shot in the past few years seem to come standard with a "lawyer trigger".
