I had always wanted to make the pilgrimage to Daytona when Scotty Russell was still racing Kawi's for Team Muzzy. That is one skinny Southern boy that could ride, now! anim_hail2.gif

Damn skippy.. I alwasy wanted to go there too.
I remember watching him racing there on TV.

Man, I remember watching Daytona on tv one year and Scotty took a tumble on the 2nd lap and ended up in last place. With a broken left footpeg (it broke off) and a bent clutch lever and partially loose exhaust, he charged from the back to win. I was sorry to see him retire. He had really bad nerve damage in his foot and couldn't shift like he needed to anymore. Sure was great to watch him when he was racing , though.

It was badass, wasn't it. His pit crew kept calling him in, and just waved 'em off and charged.

Now the funny part.. On my way to work I saw a guy on the bike I always wanted.

I had the chance to buy one of those or the ZX-7 that I ended up getting (burgandy). They offered the green or the burgandy for the year that I got. There were already 2 of the Green/White/Blue ones in town, and the burgandy one was a little cheaper (bought it very slightly used from a friend). I loved it. I too always wanted one of the green/white/blue myself. I still get wood when I see one even nowadays.

The 7 was my most thrilling ride. None of my other bikes handled like that one.

I would love to go to a race, but I was looking up the schedules on all the local tracks I know of around Phoenix and superbike races do not appear to happen that frequently. Am I missing something? I thought there would be races all the time.

there won't be all that many professional races.

however, there should be tons of club racing going on. on the east coast, we have WERA, and NESBA. they hold lots of races at VIR (Virginia International Raceway). even club races are fun to go to.

Also, you can often get a gig as a corner guard at club races too. Serious fun.

Yea - it can be a long day, but man - what a riot. Best way to get close to the track.

One time, I had my Moto Guzzi with and the ambulance forgot to pick up the medic on my corner. Poor guy was pretty white by the time I got him back to the pits. bigsmile.gif
