I know it is blasphemy but I am considering having a 40 barrel fit to my DW CBOB.
Storm Lake makes a pretty inexpensive and available "prefit" barrel. Anybody have any experience with these?
Decent quality?

remat457, there is nothing wrong with getting the 40S&W conversion barrel for such a fine weapon, trust me on that one. I have the Bar-Sto Match Grade 40S&W conversion barrel for my S&W 1006 and the Storm Lake 40S&W conversion barrel for my Glock 29. Both of mine have been accurate and cost savings to the shooting senerios. If Storm Lake's 1911 barrels are any were close to the others you can go wrong!

I have two Storm Lake barrels for my Glock 29 one in 10mm and one in 40S&W as mention above. Both have been great, accurate, 100% functional and Great machine work on Storm Lake's part. I wish they made barrels for the S&W 10XX series pistols.

These have added to the shooting experience, by allowing the use of the shorty forty (cheaper ammo and there is brass out the wazoo) you are utilizing the same feel and sight picture for realisitic practice. This can save the ware and tear of 10mm brass while allowing you to have some fun.

But don't forget to get back to the full powered 10mm ammo as not to forget why you went the way of the 10! Enjoy!

Storm Lake has been around a while and I'm sure their drop-in barrels are fine. You are not likely to get the greatest accuracy possible as they are not full gunsmith fitted, but I expect it will produce satisfactory accuracy. As for converting a 10mm to shoot 40, the 40 ammo is cheaper and easier to find than 10mm. You might need a dedicated 40 magazine, but some 1911's will function fine with 40's in a 10mm mag.

Sig Sauer uses Storm Lake barrels for their GSR series (marked on hood as Sig Sauer). They also made them for the (former) New Detonics pistols. You will have no trouble with their pre-fit barrels.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I have gotten nothing but good feedback on the Storm Lake's including a custom gunsmith on the DW forum who says that it will need to be fit into my CBOB (better than being sloppy and loose). I am going to try one as they are well priced and readily available.

Thanks again!
