Afternoon ya'll,
I need some help or info. I want to buy the Springfield Mil-spec 1911, but I can't get it with the ambi-safety lever. Being left handed I kind of need that. I don't have the $$$ to step up to the "Loaded 1911", so I need to know if I can get a ambidextrous safety lever from somewhere and have it installed later? Do any of ya'll know where I can get one? Also, is it a DIY type job to install?

Thanks for your help,
Mike Harris

It can be done but I would not use a drop in type. Get with a local gun smith so tht it gest down right. I have an Operator and it comes with ambi safety. I can not see any visual differences between the frame on that one and the other 1911 I have that does not have a ambi. With the peticular safety that is used on the Operator you do have to mod teh grip panel beacuse there is a little tang that hangs down and you need just a little space under the top of teh panel for it to slide. I found this out when I changed grips from the stock ones. That was easy enough to fix as I just compaired the old grips under side with the new one and whipped out the trusty old drimmel and just ground out a notch in the same place and general shape. I went t very shallow each time until I got the depth I needed. Took maybe 15 minutes.

I appreciate the help, Red. I'm gonna look into it and see if the extra cost for the "loaded" model would be worth it.

Thanks again,
Mike Harris

I'd get the Loaded & here's why;
I's a factory installed part & if anything happens, you can send it back for service under warranty! thumb.gif
