I dont know how old of a taping it was but just today I saw an eppisode of "Ted Nuggents Spirit of the Wild" and he shot a fallow deer with a Springer in 10mm. It appeared to be a 6 inch barrel and the lower frame looked like either an "operator" or "TRP". It had rails and he had the Crimson Trace grips on it. He hit the deer at about 90 yds with the first shot. He had to hit is 3 times to bring it down though. I think the first shot was a little far back into the guts and not lungs.

Omega is also a linkless design.....can't say I've shot a deer at 90 yards with the Omega, but did get one at 60yds.

I have no idea all he said was that it was a 10MM by SA. He held it up and it looked like the rail had 5 or 6 notches on it. (many more than mine with a 5 inch barrel and it was not a full length rail). He also showed the CT laser.

I did think the shot was pretty good. Even to hit about 5 inches back the elevation was dead on. I know I have put 5 inch groups out of my operator (45 ACP) at 50 yards but that was with bags and a good steady rest. He took this shot standing with no support.

The Omegas were neat, dual extractor and all. I have seen only a few, but I have never actually seen a non-Omega linkless like in the ad in real life.

However, those are great Omega pics!

Here is a pic of a traditional 1911 with barrel link and linkless from http://www.bren-ten.com/website/id56.html:

Didn't realize it but there are a couple of pics of the SA linkless also!

To preserve one of these things-I think it is a must to get an extra gude rod for the linkless design from Stahl

SA Omega and linkless design is great - but - has some potentially serious flaws - and there's no spare parts supply that I know of.

NOTE: If you shoot a SA Omega/Linkless often, the Recoil Spring Guide will crack, either on the top or bottom, right where the hole is drilled for the slide stop to go through. My buddies SA Omega 5" was immobilized by this - and both Peter Stahl and SA didn't have spare parts. The gun was returned to SA for a straight exchange for a .45 Stainless Trophy Match .45

Also, not all SA Omega's had dual extractors - some had a large allen screw that screwed through the left hand side of the frame.

The purpose of the allen screw was to allow easy caliber changes. When the barrel/caliber was exchanged, you screwed the allen screw in or out to push the case rim of the cartridge against a single extractor on the ejection port side.

NOTE: SA Omega's with the allen screw arrangement on the slide have the propensity to crack from the top of the screw towards the ejection cut out. My 6" Target Grade SA Omega suffered from this - and SA gave me a M1A Loadad w/ Walnut Stock.

HTH,
Fast Dave

Not exactly the S/A linkless in the ad, but...

From what I've experienced (my own and a friends OMEGA) and heard directly from SA was that the updated (last few production runs) OMEGA's had improved/upgraded recoil rods in the area that was prone to breakage. Also that had a lot to do with Norma full house loads and hot hand loads.

This OMEGA of mine below was shipped from SA in one of the last two shipments before they quit making them. It was a legal/patent issue between Peters Stahl and S/A. Supposedly mine (so I was told anyway) has all the bugs worked out that plagued earlier models/versions. It's been very reliable, durable, and more accurate than any out of the box and modified pistols I have ever owned. I do worry about the lack of parts should something happen, but I remain hopeful that it will continue to serve me well. Plus I have an excellent pistol smith friend!
