I presume these will go to the CMP which means there will be a lot more Garands and Carbines avaliable.

South Korea's defence ministry has announced plans to sell up to 86,000 M1 Garand rifles to gun enthusiasts and collectors in the United States. Along with a reported 22,000 M1 carbine rifles, the total value of firearms for sale exceeds $100 million.

The U.S. government has approved the plan for sales of the rifles, which were originally given to South Korea as part of a U.S. aid program in the 1950's.

The M1 is reportedly the first semi-automatic rifle generally issued to the infantry of any nation and saw service in the U.S. military from 1936-1966, primarily during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Subsequently, the M1 became a highly sought after collectors item, particularly through the Civilian Marksmanship Program. The U.S. military also sells surplus M1 rifles through the program.

A well-maintained Garand is both accurate and reliable, and the rifle is popular for hunting, target shooting, competitive shooting, military parades and reenactments as well as being prized collector pieces.

South Korea expects this sale to raise tens of millions of dollars.

Price will depend on what they get sold to importer for. Value of the 108,000 guns is stated as $100,000,000 or $925 each. But they state the Korean Govt expects 10's of millions of $ in sales so that could be in the range of affordable. What do I think they will go for? Probably less than $500 but they won't be as nice as the CMP guns. We haven't seen this number of M-1s imported since before Slick Willy, this will drop the prices on the collectors market for a bit.

When I was at the CMP a couple of months ago they had some rifles that were returned from South Korea, they looked brand new and were selling for $800.00. I didn't have the money to get one or I would have on the spot.

This info was posted yesterday on the CMP site and has to do with more Greek returns. You might want to get your paperwork in to the CMP if you meet their requirements for purchasing.

"You guys will be seeing some great rifles soon.
Today GCA members opened many, many, pallets of rifles from Greece. These rifles are said to have been in use by the Greek Air Force and are in better condition than most seen in the past. Most were late SA in the 5.6 - 5.8 range and late HRA, some with LMR barrels. Majority in great shape with excellent stocks. Many of these rifles are correct grade, maybe even collector grade.
Also a couple of hundred brand new unissued rifles turned up. Look for these on the auction site. I only heard of one IHC being found though there may have been a few more. Some Winchesters including WIN 13, but mostly mi?xmasters. A few M1D'd and type 1 NM.
Yes, for the time being all the ammo at CMP has been sold but they expect to be getting quite a bit more from Greece in the not to distant future. Also CMP is attempting to have some commercial companies produce 30-06 ammo at reasonable cost.
Also, something new. Around the 1st of the year CMP will be obtaining a large number of Bayonets. Most likly M5s but may also have some 10" M1 Bayonets in the lot.
As far as Garands for the future. We were told that CMP currently has on hand apx. 150,000 rifles which they expect should be good for the next 4 or 5 years.
Believe me, as this new group of rifles become available you will all be VERY pleased with them, Don't miss out. When will they become available ? I don't know. They now must go to the armorors to be checked out and graded, but when they do become available, Don't miss the boat on these."
