How about a petition to bring back the Smith and Wesson series of 10mm's. I would like to see a 1066TSW model. I have a 1076 that I really have fallen in love with. It would be nice to see S&W start making this series again with an improved decocking lever.

I would be all for that, but I still question the quailty of smith autos. After they sold the company the QC went to ****. I have heard that another American firm bought them out, but I havent heard much since.

most of my smiths are olg guns, and the quality back then was impeccable!, My 1076, 3953, 4043, and it all works out my new 1006 are all excellent guns. As for the new smiths, I am not a real fan of some of them, perhaps things will work out

IMO, the new company is as good as the old company. There's no better Customer service. I boycotted them when the company was sold to the English Asses, but now "They're Back".....No hesitations from me on buying any new S&W product.

Here, here! My second 10mm was a 1006 and for a long time, my carry gun was an ex-FBI 1076. If S&W started building them again, I'd buy a new one, especially if it didn't have the hated magazine disconnect.

The "new" S&W seems to share only the name and products with the British-owned company. Management is very pro-2nd Amendment and customer oriented. They understand who buys their products and why.

Like many others, I boycotted S&W products when they signed the coerced "agreement" with the Federal government abridging the rights and interests of gun owners. But with the new ownership and attitude, I support them with my $$$.

I personally witnessed some QC issues that they had when they were an overseas owned company. On the other hand I have witnessed the quality that they have returned to and this was within the same model gun (all 5946 TSW's). I do not necessarily agree with their decision to make all pistols TSW's but from a marketing standpoint I can see how this is better for the company. I am disappointed that they will not release the 10mm in a semi-auto again, especially when I call their customer service department only to hear that whatever parts that they have left is it (mostly pertaining to the 1076). It makes me wonder what is the service life of a pistol that you eventually can't get parts for anymore. My 1076 runs like a tank but it is always better to be prepared. I have seen a renewed interest in the 10mm and Smith and Wesson seems to be holding it's own. I also see alot of posts on the several gun forums that I frequent so I feel that the renewed interest is more than a passing fad. I hope that the more it is talked about and the more forums that it is posted on will also spark a renewed interest in Smith and Wesson to consider if nothing else a limited run. They may feel that it is cost prohibitive to re-tool an entire factory for this but I feel that they would sell better than 80% of whatever they made.

Quality wise S&W is still among the best out there.

Does the new MIM parts suck compared to the older real metal parts? Yep, but who now a days offers a gun without these cheaper parts that is not custom? Besides it would seem to me that out of all the MIM in todays guns S&W seems to have the recipe for MIM down better than the other manufactures.

S&W would make them again, but they need a minumum order first, I think the minumum is 500 units. I am pretty sure that the order has to be placed by a distributor like Lew Horton. So if 500 or more people went to Lew Horton and paid the money, I expect you would get whatever model of 10mm everyone agreed upon.

The 10mm is the 41 Magnum of the auto loading pistol world. A fantastic cartridge that is not understood by the majority of the shooting public.

I'd like to see a PC 945-type pistol in 10mm (a 1045?)...or any of the 10xx seriese back in production (esp. the 1086).

Good analogy. The .41 was for a long time my favorite wheelgun cartridge. Even got a few deer with it in a 6" Model 57. I remember reading somewhere, mayby in an early review in a gun mag, that the 10mm was designed to provide .41 Magnum performance in an auto.

To keep it on topic, "Please S&W, build another new 1076!!"

AS a matter of fact, I purchased a used S&W 657 (.41mag) a week or two after I bought my 1076.

I too purchased an FBI 1076 w/o the disconnect and an ex LEO w the mag disconnect. It took about 15 minutes to remove the plastic gizmo to make it an w/o disconnect gun. I'm not sure that you could do it in your work situation, but I will not have a mag disconnect gun. My .02.

It's funny that if he called, Smith and Wesson would probably drop what they were doing and make it for him but hundreds of customers can't get them to budge!

Actually when we get to the S&W petition next month it will be going to both S&W and Lew Horton for their consideration. As I said before I think the odds of getting S&W directly to make another run of 10mm's is 0% but if Lew Horton called and wanted to do a run I think they would.

I agree that there is probably a big fat ZERO% chance that we will ever see a reproduction of any 10mm from them but it is nice to dream about it. That being said, I am trying to pick up another 10mm as soon as I get the chance (probably a 1006). From what I have read it appears that you can convert a 1911 over to a 10mm with a complete upper and magazine change. Do you think that you could convert a Smith and Wesson 45 (non 1911) over to a 10mm with a complete upper and magazine change?

I called Lew Horton Distributing about a week ago when I'd read an old post on The High Road that Lew had ordered, and S&W had agreed to make, a run of their 1911's in 10mm. I was told that the Custom Shop was slammed with back orders and that while there was a POSSIBILITY, SOME DAY, of this happening, there was NOTHING in the works at this point in time. Horton's said they'd need a substantial order to invest and commission such an order from S&W. I think we can assume that the same is true for anything like the reintroduction of the 10XX series.

Maybe. The 45 ACP 1911 frame has a feedramp that is cut deeper into the magwell and at a steeper angle than those originally chambered for 9mm, 38 Super or 10mm. So feed reliability may be an issue with such a conversion. That being said, I have seen a number of new 1911's in 45 ACP and the feed ramp does not look to be cut as deep into the magwell as on older Colts. So it may be possible for such conversions, depending upon your receiver. I did convert my Colt Delta Elite to be dual caliber 10mm and 45 ACP. All I had to do was put in a 45 ACP ejector (and it works just fine on the 10mm rim and won't hit the primer either) and very slightly alter the slide stop to keep the larger diameter bullets from activating the slide stop. Works pretty well too!
