I just purchased four boxes of DT ammo (first timer... really.gif smiley_smartass.gif smile.gif oh yea.gif ), along with it, from DT I bought a wolf 22lb recoil spring, and new guide rod.

I installed the spring and rod with no problems, but when shooting the new hot ammo, the slide locks back before I'm out of rounds.
I switched back to the factory rod&spring, and it shot without any problems.

I obviously don't believe that the issue is the ammo, but it could be helpful to know I was shooting the 165 gr goldsaber, the 130gr nosler, the 200gr controlled expansion, and the 230 gr led hardcast round.

As far as I can tell, the ammo performed perfectly, nice accuracy.

Any ideas what could be wrong? Maybe there's something wrong with the spring?
Also, there was another spring sent with the package, looks like it could be the right length for a firing pin spring, but I didn't take the glock apart to see. Was I supposed to install that somewhere?

_rab_, welcome.gif to 10mmTalk!

I'm assuming that you are shooting this from the Glock-20. What could be happening is the new springs are returning the slide to battery before the magazine is popping the round up to the top. You might have to shoot it some more with the heavy spring to get it to run better. Your pistol maybe one which would perform better with the 20lb spring to tune the slide velocity.

Are you using the 15 round or 10 round magzines? 15's seem to be more prone to this when new, storing them loaded up for a while may help.
Be sure that you tap the loaded magazine in such a way to set all the rounds to the rear of the magazine.

Good luck and best regards! thumb.gif

The other spring is for the striker (firing pin)!

Yeah, I'm using a G20, with 15 rd mags. I've kept them loaded while in storage, and this didn't happen at all during the first 200 rounds (all I have through the new gun), with the factory spring. It only happens when I switch the springs. Maybe it's a little too stout. I guess if I keep it installed, and shoot some ammo through it, it'll eventually lighten up a bit, maybe that's all it needs.

I'm still a little confused how it happens, I don't understand why having a stronger spring would cause my slide to lock back.

Thanks for the suggestions! smile.gif

The fresh round is not in position as the slide is coming forward to pick it up. This could be a combination of strong spring and the ammo being cycled.
Seeing how it works with the stock spring, your pistol maybe one which would perform better with the 20lb spring to tune the slide velocity.
If it locks open tugging on the slide and releasing should feed the round.

Good luck!
