Well, finally got the gumption to try one of these out. I have the requisite 3 guns, got the ammo, got slings for the long arms, but, I need a holster. I have a basic crappy pancake one, synthetic, but it's not easy reholstering and that's part of the match. Anyone recommend an appropriate holster for this type of shooting? I had a Bianchi Black Widow for my 1076 before I sold it low those 12 years ago. I now have a Kimber 1911 in 10mm that I want to use. So, a little feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

I would like to wish you good luck in the match. I have never tried that.

jimswanson,
Good luck in your match!
to compete, you want a holster that will retian it's shape, hold it's position on your belt and not drag on the gun when you draw your weapon. the first two make your re-holstering easier, and the latter is pretty self explaining. I use a Com-Tac locking paddle for my 1911's and my Glocks, It's an Outside the waist style holster, and the "hooks" that lock under your belt keep it from rotating if you are bending and moving alot. I have found Kydex is faster than leather and OWB is easier to re-holster than IWB. IWB is more for concealment that competition. Sidearmor also makes a very nice holster but they do not have the locking features that the Com-Tac have.

I only own IWB's which are not conducive to a 3-gun match so I can't help you there. But I do wish you good luck! I'm sure you'll have a great time.

I'm looking for a good holster for a Delta Elite for this same reason. In two weeks from Sunday I'll be trying my first three gun match bigsmile.gif

August 1st? Same here. Except I'm in Virginia. I ended up getting a Tagua Open Top Belt Holster at my local gun store, as I couldn't find the Kydex one locally that fit my Kimber. It's leather, seems to be holding its shape well, and I've been practicing drawing and returning with it. Not bad for $41.

BTW, any full size 1911 holster will work with your Delta Elite.

It's not finding holsters that fit the gun, exactly, that's my problem... It's finding them in lefthanded versions

They had a bunch of left handed ones available.

Anyone try BladeTech? I have two of their holsters, one IWB and one OWB, and like them both. Nothing locking, no moving parts, smooth kydex, good to go.

Wow, that was fun! I used the Kimber I have for the pistol part, she acquitted herself very well. The steel plates went flying! She was my pistol for all the courses, and worked flawlessly. Unfortunately, I did not work flawlessly, and the target sights are great for target practice, but I'll be getting a 3-dot set for this kind of competition. I'll be picking up two or three more magazines and I should be good to go for the next scenario.

One other thing. After shooting this match, I realize that I'm not shooting as well under pressure as I am at the range. I've noted the above deficiency in my shooting ability with a pistol. Also, I shot the entire match with open sights. Most of the guys there had optics of some kind. I was partnered with another guy there. I think I did pretty well with my equipment. I used a .308 rifle, the 10mm Kimber, a Ruger 10/22, and an H&R pump shotgun.
