I am looking to get a shotgun and want some opinions.

I have searched the world over and found no bad press on the Winchester Super x2 or x3. So, I am leaning toword this gun. The only problem is I don't really want to spend $800 to $1500 on a shotgun, if I can even find one.

That being said, what shotgun would you guys suggest.

Requirements.
Automatic preferable but not a must
I would dove hunt 2 or 3 times a year
I would shoot clay about once a month
$0 to $700 price range

Thanks for the help in advance.

Like G said, you can find a lot of nice 1100's for that price range. I did find this 11-87 that has a $590 starting bid with no bids so far.

Remington 11-87

I use a Mossberg pump 12ga for most of my needs. I have a few of them and none have ever broke or failed to go boom when the trigger is pulled.
I also like the Remmy 870 series as well.

I picked up a Charles daly a few yaers back nice little auto the only issue I had with it was that it was very light and birdshot out of the 12 ga kicked like a mule.... I changed the buttpad and it is sweet now.... uses the same chokes as rem....

last year i got my dad a mossberg 930 autoloader for his b-day. from what you listed as requirements i think it might be something worth looking into. its a 12 ga and they accept 3 in shells. it is very light but as a result i think it has a harder recoil than my mossberg 500 pump. it fits right into your price range the one i got was right at $400 at a local gun shop but if theres a Dicks sporting goods in your area i have seen them in stock at just about every dicks ive been to and if not they can order it for you. just my 2 cents but from what your saying you might want to check one out.

Used Beretta 391 will do you well. The 390 used is also tough to beat

A good cheap gun for dove and clays?

Pump -- Remington 870, 20 gauge
Semi- auto -- Remngton 110, 11-87, 20 gauge
Double (O/U) -- Stoeger, 20 gauge

My preference for that kind of shooting is a 20 gauge double, it's the fastest and lightest shotgun you can get. Mine is a Franchi.

Italian made O/Us are among the best, maybe the best doubles out there, but can be a bit more than you want to pay, unless you can find one used.

I have owned Winchesters, Remingtons, Tri-Star, Benellis, Stoegers and Berretas. In my opinion for the money you cannot beat a Stoeger M-2000. It is a Benelli (made on Benelli tooling in Turkey) for $399 - $499. They are awesome. I have run several cases of shells through mine and I have never expierienced a failure of any kind. Comes with a wide assortment of chokes and is very durable. In every way that actually matters in the field it is as good as my Super Black Eagle (I don't use 3.5" shells anyway) and it cost $650 LESS MONEY. I would stay away from Tri-Star though.

i have a stoeger m2000.
28'' auto loader. 3'' shells.
its a turkish copy of a benelli.
has the inertia bolt.
really smooth to shoot.
ive hunted dove duck and quail. and rabbits.
does really well. no problems at all.
not too heavy. always loads.
put well over 800 rounds through it.
if i had to buy another it would be the same thing.

Thanks for all the input guys. I ended up with a Benelli M1 Super 90 Field. It was purchased in 2002 and used a bit but in really good shape. I cleaned the crap out of it last night and look forward to hunting and shooting clays with it. I might check into the stoeger for my son though. Wont be long and he will be wanting to shoot with me.

For my first shotgun I bought a Remington 870 Combo. It included a smooth bore 12 guage barrel, a rifled slug barrel with iron sights and will accept anything up to 3.5" super magnum shells. Cost was about $400. Great gun and value.
