Just read an article in the June 09 Guns Magazine by Mike Venturino "The Truest of True Classics". In this article he is talking (on page 55) about the 1911 and all the different companies that make them. He makes this statement "And I hear Ruger is getting into the act." Anybody else hear this? I know it has been discussed from time to time, but this is the first time I have heard of it other than internet gossip.

I've heard rumors of this for the past two years, but I'm skeptical. I'd love to see it happen though, and I'd be the first in line to get one even with the problems Ruger had with the SR9 and LCP. In my opinion, it would be the best of best worlds; Ruger reliability and the 1911 platform. My handgun dream come true.
With that said, I doubt it will happen. Everbodies so far behind on orders I find it hard to beleive they'd try to trot out a new modelin the midst of this craziness.

I believe it, I also heard they were going to start making AR-15's too. If you look at the way the company is heading, with all the "tactical" things they are starting to do...it makes sense.

It's likely, but I doubt it will be a traditional type 1911. I am sure it will have some kind of twist with it.

If it's a reasonable price point, and somewhat close to traditional, I'll buy one. I like Ruger's products, and now that they're not dealing with Bill Ruger's politics, I can't think of a reason not to buy one.

QUOTE (nitehawk1946 @ April 22nd 2009 4:54 PM) First link is to a Mini-14. Second link is to an AR chambered in .204Ruger caliber. To the best of my knowledge, Ruger hasn't released their own AR yet.

I would not buy one. Not after Bill Ruger's sell out to the AWB. I don't care who runs things now.

Ruger has been introducing less politically correct firearms ever since. I wouldn't buy a Ruger 1911 because it would be filled with MIM import junk parts.

Nothing wrong with MIM, if it's done right. Cast can be stronger than forged, if it's done right, and who else to do it right, than the industry leader?

I wouldn't buy a Ruger 1911 because it would be filled with MIM import junk parts. Like I said. I don't care who runs Ruger now. I will continue my boycot. They make nothing I want or need that I can't get elsewhere.

I would buy one if the price and quality was right. Ruger overall makes solid products that are backed up with excellent customer service. They are still American owned and employ real Americans to make their products.
Some folks still hold a grudge about the Bill Ruger hi-cap magazine episode which was really a marketing attack against Glock that backfired horribly. At that period of time Glock was gaining huge sales with its high capacity wonder nines and Ruger made the poor decision to try to take the hi-cap advantage away from Glock, the rest is history. Bill Ruger admitted his mistake and apologized for it many times including the last interview he did with American Rifleman Magazine.
I can forgive Bill Ruger for this blunder since he did admit his mistake and apologized for it. Just the same I can forgive Smith & Wesson for their own mistake years ago since they also fessed up and apologized for it. The one company I can't forgive that has pissed on the American gun owner more than all the others combined is Colt. They have never admitted or apologized for their long laundry list of back stabbings and treat the civilian consumer as a evil necessity to fill the voids between government contracts. I haven't purchased anything with the prancing pony logo on it in over 20 years and that's the way it's going to stay.
