We have seen a fair number of these and related rifles show up at the Appleseed Project.
The 4th guy down has one. The pic is from our April 19 shoot at the NRA WC in Raton, NM:

They are a rugged and well built rifle and will shoot the still very cheap mil-surp 54r ammo.
And mil-surp is what most shooters bring for an weekend involving 400-500 rounds of ammo.

Here are my observations.
Shot form a stable prone position with most mil-surp ammo they are about a 4-6 MOA rifle with a decent shooter familiar with the rifle.

The scopes that usually come with these have only a dismally low 2 1/2" or so of eye relief.
This has caused scope eyebrow and even a couple of bloody cuts over the eyes.
One guy replaced his scope and it worked better.
The side scope mount puts the scope up so high that a cheek weld is non existent so shot to shot consistency,
especially when shooting one shot every 3 seconds at rifleman's cadence, is out the door for the most part.
A cheek piece to raise the comb would help.

Most shooters improve when the scope is removed and the irons are used.
When shooting from a bench off bags shooters report 4MOA groups or a bit less.
I have not seen any "match grade" type ammo results. But as others have said it shoots better and I would expect it to.

Overall it's not a bad rifle for the price.

I was looking into buying one of these myself recently and did a little research. I figured I already have plenty of surplus 7.62X54R laying around for my Mosin anyway...why not have a semi-auto that shoots it also?

There's a couple of ways of looking at where this rifle would fit into my collection....

I can look at it as a semi-auto version of my Mosin....something like AR-15 is to Bolt action .223 as PSL-54C is to Mosin Nagant 91/30.

Or I can look at it as a larger caliber AK...something like: AR-10 is to AR-15 as PSL-54C is to AK47.

With the exception of the Draganov looking stock, you can tell this thing uses the same AK design for everything else, just like the AR-10 uses the AR-15 design.

In the end I decided against it.

At my local gun shop it was around $900......and I can drive up to J&G (about 2 hours from my house) and get it for closer to $750....and I can find it in the $650-$700 range online, but then you have the hassle of sending from FFL to FFL and the extra costs involved with that.

I prefer to have all my weapons "unregistered", and usually only buy from private owners. My Mosin Nagant is the only weapon I own that has any government paperwork on it...and for under $100 (before I put the scope on it...I was willing to take that risk)

If I can find one of these at a reasonable price from a private owner I may end up buying one after all...but it's still lower on my want list than say an M1 Garand...

So as just a collector's item and fun shooting gun, how would you rate it? I've been looking at this gun as well. I don't have a lot of money to throw at it so I was looking for a relatively inexpensive and accurate shooting gun in the Dragunov style.

But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?"
