Hello all,
just wondering if anyone here is reloading the 7.62x54R cartridge and where you get your supplies from.
And if so what have you found to be some good choices in components?

just wondering, what gun are you reloading for? i can't imagine a mosin or knock off dragnov (psl) would see any real gains for hand loads over cheap cheap surplus... just curious,...

My M91/30. I am going to start competeing in some nostalgia/military shoots and the only thing we are able to have is commercially available or handloaded ammo, the rifles have to be "as is, battle issued" no modifications. Some of these shoots will be at 200, 600, and some are out to 1,000 yards and I am looking for something that is going to be as consistant as possible for the long range stuff.
I already have long range handloads for the M1 and the 1903/A3 worked out but I am just now looking into this for the Mosin. Some of these meets are a 3 gun competition and one rifle out of the 3 has to be of a foreign origin.
Truthfully I do not know much about combloc rifles, I have only ever owned a few SKS'S and a couple of AK47's in the past and have absolutely no idea how accurate the Mosin is going to be past 200 yards. Depending on the long range capability of it I may have to look in another direction for this.
I already own the M91/30 so I figured I would give it a whirl first before looking into buying a different rifle. I am really starting to like the Mosin Nagant rifle and am going to try my best to include it in my line-up.

it depends. i've read a LOT of stories of people picking up mosin's, for less then 100$, adjusting the rear site to 600ish yards, and getting out onto 1 footish targets with surplus ammo. MY mosin holds shatty groups at 50 and 100 yards, but the barrel was counter bored, so i didn't expect great results, its a fun gun for me. with all that being said, if your rifle has good rifling, there is NO reason why it shouldn't do rather well, with surplus ammo, and then better with hand loads. it really depends on EACH rifle tho, so you'll have to wait and find out.

even with mine shooting, not so on par, i still love it.

I'm not for sure but would highly suspect, you'd run into the same problem with 54r as 8mm in regards to why you would want to with SAAMI holding reloading data far below pressures in surplus ammunition for safety sakes because of all the old rifles out there.

The only reason why I'm set up to load 8mm is to do different bullet types and have no hopes of touching my better surplus in performance. Even the new brass I have is rated at the lower pressures.

I reload for the 54R because I have an M27 without the D stamp and the bore is about .309. I reload .308 bullets so I don't cause damage to the gun. It is more accurate with the .308 bullets too.

Graf and Sons usually carrys brass, dies, and other components for the 54R.

I've thought about reloading. I'm just starting to get into casting so I might have to try a mold and get some dies.
