Since I finally got a pic mount for my surefire, I decided that I wanted to keep it with/on the rifle. The mount does make it a little uncomfortable when using in hand any way and I didn't want to keep removing and reinstalling the light. So, this evening, (actually 0200) I went into the Meijers store and was looking around. I decided to check out the "Sporting Goods"

section and came across the flashlights. This rayovac looked pretty good with an all aluminum housing and boasting 100 lumens. I decided WTH and grabbed it and an expandable holster for it to use in the truck. Got back outside and installed the 2 AA batteries and started to compare.
On the plus side
1. The light output is quite strong at 100 lumens for a "standard" mini flashlight.
2. The narrow barrel and contour are actually quite comfortable
3. Tailcap switch is very positive.
4. Has an adjustable beam.
5. Aluminum body isnicely made and finished. Looks really good.
On the down side
1. I don't know about battery life yet, but don't think it will compete with the surefire.
2. Beam does not go narrow enough. With beams pointed side by side at 15 yards, the surefire has a more pinpoint and brighter spot than the rayovac. (Which actually has a great beam for an LED cheapo light)
3. Barrel is waaaaaay to thin to mount on a pic rail. (Head diameter is same as barrel diameter on the surefire.)
All in all, was this worth the $30 I paid for it? I believe so. A good looking 80 lumen belt light that would be awesome if the beam could be tightened down just a little bit more. Appears very durable. I like it. (And I go through a lot of flashlights in the truck)
