I have a question.

I love to go out into the woods and rip off a few rounds, and pack out what I pack in.

I want to go to a real rifle range to sight in and see some bench rest groups. Where do you guys go?

I have found 3 with in a 2hour drive.

1) Florance Can shoot, they have campgrounds I have a Toy Hauler, and go ride at the dunes banger.gif

2) Albany looks nice

3) Tri County Range looks very nice (OFF the List!!!)

Any suggestions, good, bad, indifferent

Must be AR friendly!!!

Will join the one we like.

No one has any suggestions or comments? We are going to the gun show in Eugene this weekend. I guess we will stop by a few ranges and look them over.

Thanks

I'm from the northern part of the state, PDX metro area. Douglas Ridge Gun Club is a VERY nice facility, it's in Eagle Creek near Estacada. Don't know how far away you are, but if you're two hours from Florence, that might not be a huge help.

I'm in the Lincoln City area. We are going to check out a few of them on Sunday. Portland is quite a drive but not out of the question.

Thanks!

I've been hearing good things about this place since the new management took over: http://www.englishpit.com/index.shtml It's across the river from the Portland airport so quite a drive for you!
I haven't been out there yet because of the nasty weather we have been having up here but as soon as things calm down a bit, I am going to go check it out. Got some new toys about finished and could use a day at the range!

Thanks for the info.

That is quite a ways from here, but if I'm ever in the area I will check it out.

Anyone know about Estacada Rod and Gun Club range? It is close to Douglas Ridge Club but is much smaller and shorter shooting distances.

There is a range around Seaside and Gearhart that the local police departments use sometimes but I do not know the name of it. If it is closer you could make a call to Seaside PD.

Think I will go with the Albany Rifle & Pistol club. They do some speed steel and other shooting events that interest me. they are about 1 1/4 hours away so that's not to bad (I drag race my quads in Albany)

Here's a link to the range....http://www.arpc.info/

There is a speed steel shoot this Sunday so I'm going to check it out.

I did not know English Pit was open again. Since good things have been heard about it, I assume there is a new rangemaster?

I can second the endorsement for Douglas Ridge. Rifle ranges to 10000 yards. Silhouette range. Trap and Sporting Clay. 50 foot indoor pistol and .22.

I would not say Tri-County is AR friendly. You must shoot at the 100 yard range only benched. Also you have to shoot in the first few stalls if you have a brake or flash sup.

The Eugene/Springfield area has two outdoor ranges with one being member only. The other which is open to the public Fri/Sat and Sun charges $10 per day but full membership is only $145 a year and you can get all of it back by being a rangemaster or on work details. This range the Emerald Empire Gun Club has one public range with four handgun stations (10 yard) with the rest being open to all weapons at 25, 50 and 100 yards. Members have access to three private ranges, one is general purpose out to 100 yards, one shotgun with full electronics for clays, etc and one 200 yard rifle, there is also a 100 yard "pack in pack out range" plus archery ranges. The other range is private but I know nothing about it, the indoor range (Barons Den) is spendy but has two indoor ranges (rifles limited to .22), one tweny station and one six station/ Membership is $100 a year with a daily fee of $10 also. Gun rentals available from a 9mm Tommy Gun to pretty much whatver you can think of/

I like the PSTC in Clackamas if I have to go to a real range. No rifle range (well, I bleev they let .22 rimfire rifles in) but a damn nice pistol range. Electronic target mover, gun rental, GOOD ventilation system. The only downside is you HAVE to buy their ammo. They don't let outside ammo in, even if it's the same brand.

Johnson Creek Gun Club is an OK range, member's only or member + upto 2 guests. Their official rules are you must only shoot @ 50' but it's usually an unattended range (keypad entry) so if no one else is around you can shoot at closer distances. 50' is kind of silly if you're trying to practice close quarters shooting. The ventilation there sucks giant hairy donkey nards though - wear a mask, or better yet, a respirator or you'll come out tasting lead for a week.

The Place To Shoot is OK too, I like the PSTC better though, despite PSTC's limited hours for civies to shoot.

But most of all, I prefer going into the woods and shooting by myself or with some friends. Public ranges have this nasty habit of drawing the public in, and not everyone in public is really SAFE with their gunhandling. I don't care to stare down the muzzle of some tool's gun because he can't grasp basic gunhandling.

I don't care if it's shaped like a penis and you gotta cradle the balls to grip it if it shoots realiably and Glocks do.

Great thread on Oregon ranges. I used to go to Douglas ridge a lot 8+ years ago, was nice being a hunting buddy of one of their founding members. Today it's to rich for my pocket book. If shooting were my only hobby I would call Douglas ridge home hands down best range in the area.

Going up to check out English pit tomorrow will be in the area for another reason unfortunately don't plan on shooting tomorrow just going up for a look.

Cheers

I used to be a member of Douglas Ridge several years ago. Nice place!

Been to Johnson creek gun club more than once. Decent enough for indoor pistol firing.

Took part of my concealed carry class (or maybe it was hunters ed lol) at Estacada rod and gun club (its a lot smaller).

Mostly went up into the hills (goat mountain) to do my shooting though.
