Ok I know its odd, but are any rail covers made from the same material as these oven mits? My wife has some of these and they work really well not transmitting any heat. They are also rated for 480 degrees. As far as I can tell the current rail covers/ladders on the market are made from santoprene which is rated to the high 300s.

Or am I trying to solve for a non-existent problem?

It would take some serious full auto fire to damage any well known, well made rail covers. Ergo, Magpul or KAC will stand up to the abuse.
