by the way, that stag felt awesome!
The trigger was crisp and light. The rifle itself was lightweight.
Nice gun.
The trigger felt like my 10/22 does. But I spent a few days polishing the heck out of that trigger group.
It's nice to see quality factory work. smile.gif

QUOTE (Moo-X3 @ November 4th 2009 7:15 PM) *
went to the local shop today.
he had the Stag that everyone has referred to, but he wanted $899 for it.
No thanks.
Seemed a bit high for a base model.
So over the weekend ill be going to gander mtn.

One thing bob72 mentioned. About being lefty, which I am.

I need the shell deflector.
But I also noticed the mag release on the particular lower for the Stag was basically for a righty.
Which sucks.
I guess it's not a terribly big deal.
But the lower isn't something i would want to buy more than once.
is there something I could to do the lower to make it lefty, or atleast ambi?

That's not a bad price for a Stag but not a steal either. Yes, you can make your AR ambidextrous. Here's a Stag ambi safety: click. There are ambi mag release buttons as well but they cost here's one and here's another.

You can install an ambi-catch in just a few minutes. All it takes is two hands. My pleasure to be of help. thumb.gif

Are you really that rural? Mind you I'm in Texas and in a big city, but there are over two thousand licensed gun stores within 100 miles of city hall here.

Extending your driving range to 50 miles is worth it to save a couple hundred dollars.

While you might get lucky, I don't have a lot of faith in Gander Mountain. They always seem a bit too proud of their gear.

Like TS said, that price is about average, not a steal, but not a bad price.

I paid $850 for mine in 7/08 IIRC.

not really I live in between Cbus and dayton.
Springfield to be specific.
I'm hunting for shops around here right now actually.
I live "about" here. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=39...sa=N&tab=wl
We aren't too far away from there though. About 10 miles.

http://www.oeoutfitters.com/scripts/prodLi...p?idCategory=26
Hows that Del-ton look?
Seriously though. I want basic but good parts. I already have a pistol grip and but stock I plan on swapping to.
(they came off the Nordic kit I had my 10/22 in).

EDIT: just realized it's a crowned not threaded muzzle. Bust.

went to gander today.
Also went to the local shop again
Today, he had a simple RRA. Also 899.
But he offered me almost full value on my handgun if I trade, which is what I want anyways.
I guess I could start to like him after all. :\

On a side note. Gander had an Smith Wesson M&P for $999 and didn't really want to offer anything for trade on my handgun.
Guess I'll be going back tonight to look at that RRA after I do some searches.

it's chrome moly too.
But at this price range..
is it really a big deal?

Question:
The RRA, says .223/5.56nato.
I've seen 5.56mm
as long as it says 5.56 I'm good right?
or am I missing something?

Any Rock River will handle 5.56. Is the Stag gone?

yep.
Stag is gone.
For the price if the stag was there I guess that would be what I would go with.
But I'm going to see if I can milk him for more of a discount.

called to see about negotiations. He won't give me anymore off on the gun, but he's willing to throw in 2 extra mags, and 100rnds of ammo.
the cheap stuff. but regardless.
Sounds like an okay deal?

this is the one

That one plus two extra mags and 100 rounds of ammo is a good deal. I think you'll like it if you go with it.

I went ahead and traded and lay away(ed) it.
pretty happy with what I got. Excited to pay it off at the end of the month at take it to the range.
Now I need some kind of Rear sight. How do I know what will match the front?
I would like to start with iron sights. And hold off on optics.

Ill recommend the Troy Battle sights. Alot of people will reccomend the ARMS #40L. I had that one and it was a good sight, but I didnt like the way you has to deploy and stow it. Too much to fumble with. I ended up trading my ARMS for the Troy, and I like it. I DO like the notch that the Troy has for close up though.

And if you are looking for a cheaper alternative, the MI sight are good, but Ive never used them, and the MAGPUL MBUS are also pretty good. The MBUS are about $55 for the rear one. I have a set of them and they are pretty nice. But the Troy and ARMS are a whole different level. I wouldnt hesitate to get another set of MBUS on a budget build though.

If you have a flat top, pretty much any rear sight you can find will work with a standard front sight post.

The one you linked to has a rear sight but if the one you're getting doesn't have one, almost any rear sight should work.
