OMG!!! You killed my pet prairie dog! He was my favorite one. JK Reminds me of my first pdog hunt. 22-250 50gr bal tip, I pulled the trigger on the first dog and lost the view in recoil. My buddy said "got it", I said "yeah what did it look like?" He says "Like he swallowed a friggin grenade". Ahhh, good times.

I cant speak for Pdog, but I had the time of my life thumb.gif

I pulled off an incredible shot folks. 760 yards, 223 w/ 50 grain V-max. Had a 10-15 MPH right to left wind. I had my 64 minutes of angle on my scope pegged out and was at my last mildot holding over. Took me 4 shots to range it and 2 to get my windage down. 7th shot flipped this jack rabbit over backwards and plugged in down in a PD hole. I had two witness as well. Best shot comfirmed I have taken today.

Here is what a 110 grain V-max from my 6.8 does at 300 yards. I wont show all the picts as it was kinda gorry, but it is devastating on PD's. Keep in mind this was a huge PD before I took the shot.

One of Pdog's kills around 500 yards

Pdog doing what he does best:

Pdog pulled off some shots that were amazing. I ranged about 5 that I can remember that were well over 850 yards. We were shooting off this old broken down RV across the town and thumping dogs at well over 700 yards and beyond. Once we got our range and windage whiped, it was an all out war on dogs.

Ive got a crap load more picts if anyones interested. Pdog holds the world record I think with 6 Jack Rabbits with one shot. Dont really think you want to see that pict, but you get the idear.

Thanks again Pdog1517 for the amazing hunt. I will not forget it.

bring yer arse.
I fired at least 800 rounds, IIRC, I have a Wally world sack of fired brass. The majority of the shots were 300 yards+ with some jaw dropping 7-800 yard hits. The long ones were in no way shape or form one shot kills, with the varying wind speed and direction, elevation changes, and distances varrying it takes about 3-4 just to figure hold overs. Even with the Leupold varmint hunter reticle, it was a challenge, and that's all the fun of shootin 6" or smaller tagets at long ranges with a .223. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
I wish I could give you guys numbers, 100+ in 12 hrs total shooting time. Some of the dogs flip into the holes, so an exact body count is beyond pointless.

I use a 223 chambered AR, Badkarma.

these are all mine......................... flea.gif

I shoot a little really.gif

TIME TO GET RELOADING, Probably going again in a month or so.

WTF was he using, m203? I killed 5 or 6 pdogs with one shot once upon a time. Little ones all crowded around a big one that stopped a 50 gr bal tip. Don't know whether that was bullet fragments, bone fragments or just "shock" but it layed all the little buggers out. How do you get 6 wabbits to bunch up like that? We had an alfalfa field we put chicken wire on 2 sides and then drove them into the corner once. It was pretty insane and bloody but shotgun only due to chance of richochet, but 6 with 1 rifle shot that is impressive.

T-Minus one month, and Janitor and I will be able to start our own thread!

Its his first trip out... I'm betting he'll need new shorts after the first "red mist" shot he connects on!

My load out this year is:
17 Mach II and 500 rounds
17 HMR and 250 rounds
AR SPR and 300 rounds
CZ 550 .223 and 300 rounds
22-250AI and 200 rounds
243 and 350 rounds
280 AI and 50 rounds

Last trip I ran out of ammo, with a 498 being my furthest confirmed. Of course, it was 116 degrees, and the beer was more appealing after a few hours than shooting! really.gif

Maybe we need to try and set up an Armory Prairie Poodle Rendezvous next year?

I've got an awesome guide with sole permission/access to 165k acres in S Central SoDak

Hey guys!
I live in kentucky and am very interesteed in getting a Pdog hunt in around Late July or sometime in August. I have no clue on how or where to go, I assume I'll have to go to maybe South Dakota. If so or if there is a better place, how do I get hooked up with a place or the right people? Thanks for any help.......

My first trip was planned around a book titled "A prairie dog hunters guide to Phillips county Montana". Phillips co was the goal but we also whacked dogs of opportunity in SD and WY. Maps are very important. USGS and BLM maps that show public boundaries are worth their weight in gold. The problem with stopping at SD is you really miss a lot of the good country of WY and MT. Thunder Basin Nat Grassland and Buffalo Gap Nat Grassland are good spots but the public and private lands are mixed so you have to have the maps to know whats what. Take the .22 LR it will extend your shooting as expensive as ammo is. And not every prairie dog is shot at 300 yds. That late in the season the dogs will be smart or dead unless you can find a town that hasn't gotten any pressure.
