I picked up my S&W 1006 out of layaway yesterday. The S&W 610 he had was gone but at least they are still in production. I can't wait to get to the range.

dj454, Congratulations! That looks to be a fine specimen in great shape too.

Take your time and feel the trigger out, long pull DA and the take-up for subsequent shots takes a little getting use to also!
Be sure to post a range report!
Best regards! thumb.gif

Just got back from the range and I am in love. The 1006 was worth the wait. It shot great I got a 1.5 inch group at 25 yards hand held with 165 grain over 9.2 grains power pistol. I also got a 2 inch group with 180 grain over 10.1 blue dot. Recoil was very managble and I could shoot it all day. This pistol is a dream I will have to add more S&W 10xx series pistols to my collection. Why did they stop making these guns everbody should have one.

I already do. I am already looking for my next 10xx series pistol. I even looked at a .40 4006 at the same pawn shop that had the 1006 and if he comes down on the price I may have to bring it home. Now that I own one I love the S&W 3rd gen pistols. I knew I wanted one but it has exceeded my expectations.

I think S&W speculated on even larger LEO contracts for their 10xx series automatics, but dropped the entire production when the .40 S&W seemed the more "desireable" choice. I too, wish I'd have picked up a Smith when they were available. Perhaps, I'll get lucky and find one in my travels. I have read, from Shadow and others, that the factory will repair used guns that have been "buggered-up". But, I guess this depends on what needs fixing. That's why a used gun, would still be an attractive acquisition. However, most of the forum members who have gotten used guns, had no discernable issues. A good testament to Smith and Wesson. Now, if they would only bring back a couple of these autos.

Congratulations! It looks like it's in beautiful shape! thumb.gif

I'm sure you're going to get a lot of enjoyment from your 1006. My S&W 10mm pistols (1026 and 1076) have become my favorites. smile.gif

S&W's are O.K. - try a Dan Wesson Razor Back on for size - if you L O V E the S&W you'll be entranced and enchanted with the DW

I agree. The Dan Wesson Razorbacks are a sight for sore eyes! When you hold one, you'll understand. When you fire one, you'll be a believer!

Congrats on the 1006! They are one of my must haves one day. Never seem to find one when I have the $ though. They are built like tanks and one of the absolute softest shooting 10s ever built!

Yep - I've handled and shot the DW 10mms, as well as other 1911 10mms, including my well-used custom Delta Elite.

While 10mm 1911's can be tuned and set-up for better accuracy (as with my DE's hand-fitted Bar-Sto barrel), the virtue of the S&W 10XX-series pistols was their out-of-the-box reliability and "combat" accuracy with no custom work. The 10XXs were designed as "street-ready" working guns from the git-go, like their 45XX-series counterparts.

I have a 1006, 1086 in 10mm and a 4566TSW in .45acp solid stable mates, and I agree 100%, but the DW's in 1911 are superb if your looking for a 1911 platform - just sayin'
