Damn, reports like this make me a little nervous about my DT's. Are they traveling too fast for optimal terminal performance? That's the question that's bothering me. Should I go back to Sivertips? Hope someone else can provide some additional shooting results for us.

Please understand I am not trying to make anyone second guess their choice in a carry load. I simply wanted to share my actual real-world experiences with shooting live animals with my carry guns. Not everyone has this opertunity so I like to share what I find with you guys instead of you soley relying on gelatin, wet newsprint and water jug "tests".

It would be interesting to see DT load up the Silvertip... It seems to hold tegether at 1300 FPS, I bet Mike could add another 100 - 150 on top of that.

I contacted Mike about this a while ago and he said if their was enough interest, he would add the Silvertip to his 10mm ammo line at factory velocity (which would be something like 1290fps from a G20, I assume...I certainly would not want it any faster, or that would defeat the purpose). If you would like to see it happen, by all means let him know. He's one of the very few ammo makers that actually listen to his customers. It would be great if he did because you would be supporting DT and Mike McNett instead of Winchester, and you would be getting 50 round boxes instead of 20. Not to mention nickle cases instead of brass! Remember, at 1290fps from a G20, you would be giving up practically nothing in power to his current 180gr. loads. The real bonus is you get a bullet that will pefrom at that velocity.

In the meantime, www.reedsammo.com offers 175gr. Silvertips at an advertised 1300fps at prices cheaper than you can get them for online. Reed's also sells them in 50 round boxes.

I didn't see much mention of Corbon ammo. I carry 180gr when I'm hunting as a backup. I've only shot a skunk with it, and it was pretty nasty. I plan on using it to do some hog hunting this spring if I can get close enough.

CorBon uses Sierra JHP bullets which tend to fragment, especially at high velocity. I'm not a fan of fragmenting bullets, so I don't shoot much (if any) CorBon ammo. I stick with bullets that stay together.

I was able to take 3 more feral dogs over bait during the week. Instead of taking and posting pics of each individual bullet, I figured I would wait until today to post a pic of them together to compare them better.

From left to right...

Winchester 230gr. JHP USA "white box" at 844fps from my Kimber Classic
DoubleTap 200gr. XTP 10mm Auto at 1218fps from my G20
Speer 147gr. Gold Dot 9x19 factory Speer load at 982fps from my G19

Enjoy.

Natchez shows ST components in thier Master Catalog. I would imagine you can order what you need from their website, www.natchezss.com.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Links provided in the "Winchester Silvertip" thread.

My pleasure. Not everyone has these opertunites presented to them, so instead of relying on strictly gelatin tests and opinions from bullet makers, I like to share my findings with the people who aren't able to get real-world results. More loads will be tested in the future. When I get everything together, I'll post those results as well.

Enjoy.

Great information! Thanks Turbonatr. Interesting to hear about and see your handy work.

No sweat!

More loads coming soon. As long as there are feral dogs, I'll keep sending lead their way. thumbsup.gif

If they loaded those silvertips in nickle plated brass, I'd buy them just for the coolness factor. Wonder if he would for a couple extra $?

Like I said, he'll add them to his line if there is enough interest. I'm sure nickle plated brass is also a possibility, again, if there is enough interest.

PM Mike and let him know, people!

Deer carcasus chained to trees works well as well as cow carcuses.

But CHAIN THEM TO A TREE IN THE OPEN as the next day you will find them up to an 100 yards away and wonder how the hell they drug it! blink.gif

Normally, I don't have to bait them. They usually come to harass the deer on the property while they are feeding. When I specifically go to my parents to blast dogs, I use chicken(s) for bait. Seems chickens are what the dogs prefer most accoding to the local chicken farmer.

BTW, I plan on using Texas Ammo's 155gr. and 180gr. XTP loads next.

Sounds excellent... I happen to LOVE the 10mm with 155 grain loads, from mild to wild. With my 6" G20L I shoot DT 155gr GD's and would LOVE to see how they perform on animals of that type.
