Ok. Picked up the P14 today. Here are some before pics. There are quite a few scratches on the slide and frame. Looks like some idiot took the slide stop and rotated it 360 deg while pushing down on it. Making a lovely circular scratch. mad.gif The stock barrel bushing is as sloppy as Sarges bung hole. I took the one off my Valor and it is a much better fit. I just need to fit the recoil spring plug to the Valor bushing. I am fitting an oversize bushing to the Valor now. The Para needs the frame and slide blued. The grip safety is sloppy and the spring tension light. The trigger works, but is very heavy with too much creep. I will take it to the range to see how it shoots. Then comes a full tear down.

I would like to improve or replace the sights. With the Para Ord proprietary dove tail I may just get a new Caspian slide with Novak cuts. Not sure yet.

I would like to remove all the firing pin safety garbage and replace with a nice trigger group from Cylinder and Slide.

Extended Mag catch

New slide stop

Ditch the ambi safety

Refinish frame and slide.

It will get done bit by bit as I can pay for it.

Ok, since i do not care for full length recoil spring guide rods, I used a lathe to cut it down to GI length. Saved me 10 bucks I had an extra gi spring plug to use so that was free too. Saved another 10 bucks. Those plus the nice stainless bushing left over from my Valor mods and I saved $50 so far. thumb.gif

I will take it out this weekend and test for function and accuracy. This is just the beginning. Next I have to strip it down and decide what finish to use. All firing pin safety parts will be removed and not return. Then I need to buy parts, lots of parts. The only things I will keep are frame, slide, barrel and the new bushing. Jay Crowder of Elite Custom will weld up and hand fit the barrel to the slide. As well as any other metal fitting that needs doing. I may get a new slide, as Para uses proprietary front sight cuts and this slide has a rear bo-mar type cut which makes conversion to combat type sights expensive. In the end it might be cheaper to go with a Caspian slide already set up for my sights of choice.
Trying to keep the costs down, but it will be tough. No fancy do dads or gee gaws, finish will be plain jane. Function will be the rule of the day.

Took it to play. Accuracy is better than I thought. The slide hangs up a bit on the return stroke every so often. I think the recoil spring is weak. I will replace it and try again. Other than that it feeds fine and goes bang.

Are you going to do your own trigger job, or have a smith do it?

I was planning on a drop in kit from cylinder and slide. They come pre tuned for weight of pull.

Slide was hanging up repeatedly on the return stroke. I tore the whole thing down to bare frame and slide. I am having the frame and slide re blued. Then she gets new innards. Enough screwing around. mad.gif

Ordered a couple parts and dropped the frame and slide off for re-bluing. I was going to have the barrel re-fit to the slide, but it shoots well enough now. I would rather keep this on the cheap and do it all myself.

Come on Oak, I have the utmost faith that you can fit a barrel. Here is a link that can help if you need it. Do you have the tools for the job?
