OK... I'm stoked! I always wanted to do mine, but didn't think the crayon method would be a "permanent" solution. I'm as giggly as a kid about doing both of my DPMS guns. The LR-308 has DEEP rollmarks so maybe that one first..

Believe it or not, I even have the wife interested! I'll post pics when everything is done... man what a great thread! oh yea.gif

is the paint really that thick that you need to add the thinner to it? kinda curious...

Depends on the paint. For the FDE on my gun I used some model paint, and it was plenty thin enough. I couldnt find red and white model paint, so I just got some spray paint and sprayed it in a metal can and used that. It was plenty thin too.

The only time I used thinner on any of mine was to clean the brushes. Paint filled in the roll marks fine without being thinned down.

Ok... here's my take. I did not thin the paint any and used a "grouting" type technique. I just let a drop from the toothpick land on the marks and smeared it around with the toothpick until it filled what it could and then repeated the same. I let the paint dry about 30 minutes and took a little thinner on a rag wrapped tight around my finger and lightly wiped the surface until the extra paint was removed. I let it dry again overnight and did the same thing with the thinner and rag again to remove the haze. My .223 rollmarks on the logo were so shallow, I had to redo it three times because I was removing too much of the paint. I used Testors flat red, flat white and a spray can of Krylon ultra-flat camouflage for the FDE. I still have a little haze to remove, but I'm gonna wait a few days to let it cure first. Overall, I'm really happy with the results and the pictures don't do them justice. If I knew it was this easy, I would have done it years ago... thumb.gif

I just painted my lower and .40 s&w pistol tonight. I used model paint wich worked pretty good.
Only thing I had to work out is to use tape between the deep red and white color. Had to do like 3 coats to cover the Friggin PINK really.gif out from the two colors miixin after wiping the excess paint off. My lower is a M&P and the smith logo is not very deep so its not as good as I like.
Anyways I will post pics if noone give me crap on my Pistol choice. It was my first pistol since leaving the Army and Iam not rich..well ny name is buttttt.....I still say anyone who gives me crap get yer butt up here and lets do some shooting with the pistolas!
Pics coming later!

Hi, sorry for necroposting, but this was recently linked to over at CalGuns.net and I just now followed the link...

This looks awesome, and I was planning on doing it on several of my personal weapons...

However, I was showing some of the guys here at work, and there's been a bit of laughter about how that makes the weapon "less tactical" and how the high visibility could be an officer safety issue and all sorts of noise...

Any thoughts on this? Does anyone think a bit of paint on the side of a weapon could be a detriment in a tactical situation?

Is that a Millett 1-4x24 in a LaRue LT-104 mount in the first picture? If so how do you like it? I have the scope and was thinking about getting the mount for my new AR. Also will it clear a low-profile BUIS? Thanks.
