Kahuna, believe me, I was never a BIG fan of painted rollmarks. Maybe just the safe and fire text, but that's it. I have seen some gawd-awful attempts using crayons and sloppy paint, but I just wanted to see how clean my technique would work. The Bushy turned out a LOT better than I thought it would, so I did the Megas.

You know what I am doing next? I am building a 6.8SPC gun with FDE furniture, and I am going to find some FDE-ish paint to do the rollmarks. Pimptastic! laugh.gif

I'm going to give it a try.

New to this site, but not new to forums bigsmile.gif Found this site crossposted from ar15.com. And I found THAT sight on youtube.

Anyway...

This looks interesting, and I want to do at least the safe and fire. I don't know if I can do the Olympic Arms logo on my AR cause it looks tough, and I haven't painted stuff this small in ages. If I make an attempt I will post pics later.

Also, on a totally unrelated topic. I think I probably know you Turbo from either supraforums or supramania. I don't know which though, since I haven't been on either since i sold her :(

That looks outstanding! It may not seem completely practical to everyone, but I've got a couple lowers that I had engraved with my name/city/state (NFA crap th_realmad.gif ). I was going to eventually refinish them entirely, but I've been putting it off. This is a perfect solution. Thanks!

Make sure adding paint to the roll marks doesnt make them too shallow for the BATF.

I am considering doing that in an inconspicuous location. Either internal or on the pistol grip tang. Was wondering about if the fill in method would be OK for post finish engraving or if I would have to refinish the whole thing. But, it is aluminum, so corrosion won't be an issue.

thumb.gif Turbo Supra thumb.gif

I originally found this thread back in April of this year and at that time painted the roll marks on my AR-15 and Glock 17. Yesterday I picked up a new lower and painted that also. More colors/detail on this latest one (CalGuns/Kaiser) but of course same basic principle, not too difficult. I thought I'd join just to show you the work and say thank you for the idea/directions! My pictures aren't as good as many in this thread but the paint is...maybe you'll just have to take my word wink.gif

The BATF gives a damn on how deep your roll marks are??? It seems to me that there would be a heck of a lot more important things to care about. Is this true? or am I missing the punch line? doh.gif

The part they care about is the rollmarks you put on it in order to get a short barreled rifle. They dont care about the factory roll marks.

I'm impressed. We used to use paint markers at a shop I worked at. Carb cleaner (the real stuff not the green crap) to clean up.
