I decided to paint the selector switch rollmarks on my trusty Bushmaster M4gery. The "safe" and "fire" looked good, so I kept going and did the rollmarks on the magwell, including the snake logo. I thought it turned out pretty well, so I couldn't stop. really.gif I did my Mega upper and lower receiver on my midlength AR, then my spare Mega lower receiver, then I even did my USPF45 because the deep rollmarks were too good to pass up... oh yea.gif I haven't used Testor's enamel since grade school. LOL!

Just tried this on a Stag lower and it looks great.
I recommend cleaning the area around the rollmarks with cleaner degreaser, seems like the overflow paint cleans up faster with the CLP. And try a second coat of the Red, makes the color a little deeper looking.
Thanks for the post. smile.gif

I just did this. Change it from white to FDE. Came out great. I still need to touch up a letter or two, but I like it so far.

And for those of you who are changing colors, I was able to just paint over the white. Didnt have to remove it.

I think the tan colors look very good, except I'll likely keep the safe white.

I'm either doing OD to match furniture or I may go with the tan because it looks so good.

Well I have to admit I looked at this thread thinking what are roll marks doh.gif now I see and that looks cool. I think I could do that fairly easily on a rainy Saturday. I really like the way the USP came out. That looks real good on a pistol. I think I will keep my eyes out for some brushes this weekend.

I went by a craft/hobby place they have here. I felt dumb because most of the stuff is chic stuff, but I got the paints as well as this kick-ass brush with a tiny tip but a pretty fat handle.

Doin it tonight, will post pics unless it sucks.

I'm sorry but can someone tell me what CLP is? I tries this and used a cleaning patch with some thinner on it. It did not work very well. The lower I tried this on was a Superior Arms lower and the roll marks are extremely shallow. I'm hopeing that the CLP will work a little better. If I could just find out what it is LOL. Thanks in advance.

CLP is an acronym for Clean Lubricate Protect, aka "BreakFree" ... available in most sporting goods locations, incl. sporting goods at Wal-Mart.

You may also need to let the paint dry a bit more. It should take a bit of rubbing to get the paint off the area outside the rollmarks, it shouldn't just wipe off.

Thanks Nick

You wouldn't believe how shallow these roll marks are. I'm sure it will work now.

Id never put that stuff on my gun. Heat will kill it, and so will the sun. Use some Duracote clear.

OK guys. I just had to do it to my new lower. For any one else interested in doing this, forget about wal-mart, Target or any place like that which used to carry models. They are all taking part in the dumbing down of todays kids and don't carry any models or supplies any more. Afte a couple of weeks of trying different places, I finally managed to get to a hobby shop outside L.A. and they had an awesome collection. I tried grey for the manufacturers data first, but it didn't show up worth a darn, so went with red. Here goes. (sorry about the focus on the first picture, didn't have macro set on the camera)

Full side view

Manufacturers data

Left side safe/fire & model data

Right side safe/fire (will be putting ambi safety on)

M&P logo (too shallow to fill in. Have to figure something out for this)

I hope you guys like it. will post pics of complete rifle once it is built. should be ready Friday

I did the roll marks on my Springfield XD45 today. I have the one with the Dark Earth frame. So I did all the stampings in FDE too. I was even able to do the springfield logo on the top of the slide that has hair width markings. It gets easier everytime I do it. Ill try and get some good pics of it later.
