What happened with Cav Arms? I never heard the story.
I guess that kinda proves your "never made the radar" statement huh?
Kinda,
In short, Cavalry Arms was partially manufacturing thier lowers off site from where their manufacturers license is held. They had permits to do this so long as a company rep was present and over saw production. The way they make thier lowers is in injection molding machines. The reciver is made in two halfs and NOT serial numbered and documented. The partially made two halves are shipped to the place where the firearm manufacturing is completed, and the two halves are joined, documented with accordance of the law and serial numbered, They had done this process several times in the presence of ATF audits. In the past all of the investigating agents ruled that thier operation was legal, this has all been documented. On Feb. 27th the ATF had agents at the injection molding shop that was outsourcing Cavalry Arms partial recievers. When the first reciever was made, like it had always been LEGALLY, the ATF agents present arrested the Cavalry Arms company rep for "Manufacturing an Illegal Weapon" (even though this process had been previously approved by the ATF)
Like always, the ATF changes the laws, never needing authorization from any of the legislative branches. They failed to notify Cavalry Arms of thier change in rules for manufacture. The ATF raided thier warehouse and office seizing tons of inventory, and taking all the pertinent paper work the manufacturers needed to do thier jobs.
It's been roughly 160 days since the ATF has raided the Cavalry Arms facility. No arrests have been made, no charges have been filed, no inventory has been returned. The ATF would have effectively destroyed the Cavalry Arms business with no proof or even accusations of criminal activity. The only reason they exist is because many of us saw how badly they got screwed and started buying thier stuff left and right, even when we didn't want it.
There was a Cavalry Arms lower bake sale of sorts that had been going on for some time. 1000 units marked Cav-Aid and numbered 1-1000 were made, in varying colors. (no pink though)
I bought two, you can read about my Cavalry Arms lower builds
In this threadThere are still several more Cav Arms items I fully intend to buy.
The official Cav Arms press release follows.

For many years Cavalry Arms Corporation (“Cavalry”) has strived to manufacture and sell quality firearms to the public. We have always strived to put our experience from the field into making quality products that the average shooter can afford, while still bringing innovations to the industry. We are dedicated to providing the best possible products and customer service to the firearms market.
On February 27, 2008, agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives executed a federal search warrant on the business premises of Cavalry and on the private residence of its CEO, Shawn Nealon. We have immediately engaged legal counsel to resolve this matter with the federal government. Cavalry is confident that all its conduct has been lawful in carrying out its business activities. The Government has yet to share with the company details of the investigation or the cause precipitating the search warrant. Cavalry is cooperating with the federal investigation. To date, no accusations of wrongdoing have been filed against Cavalry or any of its employees regarding alleged illegal activity.
While we are waiting for this situation to be resolved, Cavalry Arms will remain open for business and continue operations to the best of our ability. Since we were unable to get a decision on the manufacturing variance we had asked for, we arranged for (at great difficulty and expense) and rented the equipment necessary to resume production of the CAV-15 at our licensed premises. Receivers and rifles and have begun shipping again to fill back orders. Production of firearms, firearm accessories and medical kits will continue uninterrupted throughout this situation. With the return of our computers, we are working on reconstituting our resources. Our business situation is more normal and stable than it was directly after the search and seizure.
Our continued existence as a business can be directly attributed to the overwhelming support we have received from our customers and most importantly from the shooting community as a whole. We cannot thank enough everyone who has helped us, and we appreciate your continued support.
