I spent 6 yrs in the Army with the 82nd airborne at ft. bragg and carried a m-16 for a few years. I have a bushmaster M-4 and recently purchased a Rock River Arms .308 From what I have read on hear it seems like most of you prefer the DPMS .308 Just curious what you guys think about the RRA .308? It appears to be a very solid weapon to build on and the two stage trigger was impressive to say the least. Thanks guys..... Chuck

welcome.gif to the Armory...

I can't comment on the .308 from RRA, however, if it is anything like their .223 rifles then you got yourself one fine boom stick my friend!!

welcome.gif and thanks for your service.

I don't know about RRA. I'm betting it's a pretty good choice.

People typically like DPMS and by the way, they happen to be a sponsor of this site.

Glad to have you on board.

A guy at the range had one this morning. I had the chance to shoot it, and it was pretty nice. I'm sure you'll love it.

I bought a DPMS because it was available, cheaper than, as good as and possibly better than an AR-10. I considered a RRA but lack of availability and track record brought me to DPMS. If a RRA 308 had been as available for a similar price I would have considered it.

I have heard good things about them. Hope you enjoy it.

I hadn't even heard RRA had a 308.

If it's anything like their 5.56s. I'm sure it'll be an excellent weapon.

I bought a DPMS LR308 because I read that it was the runner up in the Army's XM110 submissions, and because of reviews like this one. Click me.

EDIT: BTW, which unit were you in at division? I served in 2nd 3rd and 4th 325 AIR.

I was with the 1/504 P.I.R Bravo company. Nice to come across a fellow paratroop.

Yes it takes Fal or L1A1 Mags. They seem to be readily available. I have already purchased a few new ones.

Welcome. I wanted a RRA 308 but could not find one. My gun shop had orders a year old still unfilled. Got a AR 10. I am sure The RRA is great based on my experience with their other products.

I will be a great weapon if they got the kinks out of it. It was a Bushmaster product some worked well but most didn't. That was a few years back, I'm fairly sure RRA got it in good running order before releasing it.

It's so new I'd stay away from it.

I'd buy a DPMS .308, we've sold dozens at the shop I work at and none have come back not working.

The fact that is uses FAL mags is a bonus.

DPMS mags are ok, but in order to use M118LR rounds, I need to find some Knight Armament SR-25 mags. Those things are a b**** to find.

I have the Bushmaster A2 20" version-bought it used. EXTREMELY pleased except for the fact it's very hard to find spare parts for. Bushmaster told me they had no parts and suggested I get hold of RRA when I emailed them. However I called and got hold of a guy there who knew where they had some old parts stashed. He fixed me right up with the spares I needed. Can't remember his name but it's written down at home. Apparently they sold the rights to this design to RRA. RRA told me they weren't selling any parts at this time because they were using them in complete rifles.
I wanted spare bolt parts and other model-specific parts that weren't the same as other AR10 parts. The FCG (trigger hammer etc) appears to be identical to my AR15, but all other internals are radically different. I don't have a "regular" AR10 to compare to, nor am I sure that such a thing exists. From what I've read about the different brands, none (or very few) of the parts will interchange between the different maker's AR10's.
At any rate, my Bushmaster is SUPPOSED to be nearly identical to the RRA and I am very pleased with it. Much more accurate than I am, works 100% of the time, uses cheap clips, very little recoil, and on and on. I'm saving nickels and dimes to get an ACOG for it, and it will be the first thing I reach for when the zombies come calling.

So these fit fine in the lower receiver of your LAR8? I have been told by others that since FAL and L1A1 mags are made all over the world that some may not fit properly. Have you found this to be true?

I haven't played with one yet. I would try the metric FAL mags over L1A1 mags, they were the mags initially suggested for use with them. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I also own a bushmaster bar-10, 20in barrel flat top with the the ace buttstock. It has a low serial number with the bad bolt design, when i called bushmaster, they wouldnt exchange it for the updated bolt, but i could buy one for $179. Does anyone know if the rra bolt will work with the bushmaster bolt carrier? Im really dissapointed with the customer service. Knowing full well that they manufactured a defective gun part and will not atleast exchange it for a safer, dependable part. Im glad i have never fired this rifle, it remains new and in the box but it would give me a peace of mind if it were fully dependable. I wonder if theirs any other defects or recalls.

Hey man I'll take that useless, defective POS off your hands and dispose of it properly for a nominal recycling fee. really.gif

Seriously, I bought mine secondhand and BM aligned the front sight (turned the bbl in the upper receiver) for me under warranty. Then later I got hold of the same guy there who dug out a stash of spare parts for me. I'm at work and won't be home for another 2 weeks, so I can't tell you his name. I have it written down at home and if I can remember it that long, I'll get his name to you. He was extremely helpful and seemed to be an old hand at BM. The spare parts I bought were not cheap though.
I was never aware there was a recall so mines had a lot of rounds through it with absolutely no problem except the canted front sight. I had to adjust the rear sight almost all the way to the left to sight it in. I still don't know what the recall is about, but if the bolt is in question a good machine shop or gunsmith can MPI the bolt to check for cracks. I'm gonna continue to blast away with mine in blissful ignorance.
BM is part of a conglomerate(?) of gun companies which includes Remington, DPMS, Marlin, and several more. Perhaps the company has gotten so big that they have forgotten where their bread and butter comes from. Maybe you got hold of a new inexperienced hand. When I first contacted them someone there told me I needed to contact RRA for spare parts. RRA said they had none-they were using all they could make for backordered guns. It was later when I called BM about my sight problem that I got the right man on the phone.
By the way, palmetto state armory has new FAL clips in the cosmoline. I just tossed mine in a bucket of gasoline and left them there a couple hours. No more cosmoline and no disassembly.
