What kind of multi tools do you use/like/prefer?

I have used Victorinox and really liked that tool. Sturdy, reliable, I could open it one handed and close it one handed...reeally liked that tool. Till I lost it at work...

I recently purcahsed a couple Winchester multi tools for me and the wife . I havent really used them yet to give a fair assessment of their ruggedness. The knife blade was sharp as hell - a good thing. The saw blade is kinda dull on mine, but should work fine cutting through small branches. it has a spring to keep the pliar jaws open, and hard checkered rubber grip inserts. The wifes is a slightly different model, w/o the checkered rubber grip inserts. I can open and close it one handed. I need to lube the bits though, so that all of them don't come out when I try to open one...It also has a handy screw driver head w/ different bits to swap, instead of just a single flat and phillips head. I have torx, phillips, and flathead bits at my disposal. A great thing for a computer geek smile.gif Of course it does have a phillips and a flat head blade besides the swappable bit tool. Has a good can opener and bottle opener - one of the most important things I look for in a multi tool, as I see that as one of the most important things to my survival...also has a small leather awl, and a ruler etched into the saw blade. Overall I'm liking the tool, but it's not quite as nice as my Victorinox.

I also got a cheapie multi tool for X-mas today. Seems like a good set of pliars - the knife is sharp, and it has an ok can opener - but the blades lock via a notch cut in the back of them, and there's really no way to close the blade w/o prying the locking strip back w/ something else...I fought for about 5 minutes trying to close the blade before giving up and using a screw driver to close the blade. It'll go in to my BOB as a backup multitool. Or into the tackle box as a fishing pliars.

I'm eventually gonna step up to a Gerber tool to try out. My Winchester tool set me back $15 at Wal Mart, and the wife's Winchester cost $10. My Victorinox was a found item. Wife found it on our porch in the first apartment the wife & lived in together one day. She gave it to me. The el-cheapie was a gift from one of my sisters for X-mas.

A couple of my bros/sisters have Leatherman tools - and while they're great tools that open and close real smooth and lock securely -- I reeeally don't like the owner's politics and how his company is used to further that. So as great as they are, I won't give my money to the bastiage. I wouldn't turn one down if it was a gift, and I'd make use of their warranty and cost them money on the exchange, but I wouldn't buy one from them.

I have to say the Gerber is my favorite right now. The two Leathermans (original and Supertool) I have both are really hard to squeeze tight. Hurts the hand. My Gerber is a lot easier on the hand! The new Leathermans are supposed to be more comfortable as the extra tools are inside the grip instead of on the outside. But, since I really don't need another one I will have to wait to see what others say about them.

I can't remember a trip to the range where someone wasn't in need of a tool. These multitools are so handy and light. I have saved many a day for less prepared shooter's who would have had to call it a day without the pliers or a screwdriver.

My first multi-tool I bought from Ace Hardware, had a plastic covered handle that broke the first time I used it, the one I use now is made by Garrity, works good so far, it came with the flashlight that is mounted under my shotgun, yes, it's a cheapy.

I have a few of them. I have 2 leathermans, 1 gerber and I just got one made by Croft and Barrow for Christmas. I also have an unknown brand miniature one.

I have several Multi-tools and traded away several more.My all time favorite is the original Gerber Multi-Plier.I also use a Leatherman Super-tool,first model Wave and an original style PST.I wish I would have kept my Victorinox Swiss-tool RS with the serrated seat-belt cutter instead of file.Hind sight is always 20/20.tom.

(2) Gerber is what I used to have, but they usually found a way to misplace themselves, so I've not bought another since. But if I do it will be another Gerber.

+1 on Wave

I also have Gerber but if I had to only have one, it would be the wave.

How is the wave on the hand? I have had to try and squeeze very hard and turn a few times with my Original and supertool Leathermans and they can really be uncomfortable on the hand. Is the wave any better?

the best tool that i have ever run across is the one i still carry it is the gerber legend i have only been able to break it twice once on a m60 bfa and the other time a pontiac trunk lid. it has spring loaded pliers rubber inserts on the grip rotating wire cutter tips single handed on the knife and fiskars siccors.... and its the right size that should you need to it has enough weight to it and fits good in a hand (folded up) to really make a strong suggestion that to back off as a person clobbers the bad guy... my x wife gave it to me for my birthday it is by far the best tool i have ever used

Gerber makes a damn good tool. Leatherman tools are of good quality, but because of the founder's politics, I'll buy Gerber.

Yep and I have the original too. I like the Gerbers but if you really use them as a tool eventually you will end up with your palm pinched. The big advantage of the Wave is the most commonly used tools are on outside and lock such as knife, saw, etc. You don't have to unfold.

I got a free muti-tool from Kershaw, it is okay and functional but I would be disappointed if I paid retail on it.

I have my last Leatherman Super Tool and will be looking for another multi-tool when this one goes down, the Super Tool is a great multi, but Leatherman has left a bad taste with me due to their politics.
