I have owned 3. Not one was a POS. I currently own 1. It is most definitely, not a POS. It is by no means, nearly as accurate as my ARs. Of course, it costs about half as much as an AR. It is more accurate than any AK clones I have fired or friends have possessed.

Mostly "I heard".

Well, I have touched, owned AND fired several Mini14's. They are, with few exceptions, POS's.

I did say "mostly". I did not say "all".

Oh, have YOU owned and/or fired ALL Minis. If not, your statement is erroneous at best.

To try and steer this thread away from the shitter, I'll post a picture of a Mini 14 I definately wouldn't mind owning. Assuming I ever get a Mini 14, I'd probably have it set up very similar to this.

You know what they say about opinions.....wink.gif

ALL of the Mini's I've handled were inaccurate junk.

That make you feel any better?

WOW!!

Well, hey all... This is my first post on the forums... There are some good reads here, and some knowledgeable people.

Anyway, more to point, I'm searching for a rifle. I have long been addicted to handguns, and just recently caught the rifle bug. I have seriously been considering a mini 14, but after reading this thread, I'm more seriously considering it, if you know what I mean.

What are the main downfalls of this gun, those of you that are the anti-mini 14'ers? I understand that is has been reported to be quite inaccurate, but I have read many places that it's a very reliable gun as well. Is it the barrel that makes this gun inaccurate? Can it be replaced with something superior?

Anyway, I guess I'm just searching for some more technical explanations about the mini 14 and the pro's and cons.

Mini-14 is like a car, some year models for some reason are better than others. I have read reports of they are junk and reports they are one of the best rifles someone has owned, personally myself this is my 2nd one and I have never had a problem with the functioning nor have I had any in accuracy. I guess I am one of the lucky ones, but I will and do recommend the Mini-14.

Here's a couple pictures of my mini. Got her over 25 years ago and she's been a safe queen since I got my 1st AR back in 89.

Been thinking about selling her, but she was given to me by my Mom & Dad and I'm rather semental about her.

Mine was like Rampy, I still have the paratropper stock, but I fit a Butler Creek aftermarket stock about 6 years ago. I got this mini-14 about '82.

The Mini 30 (on top) I bought it in 2000, my Y2K rifle.

Both have Leupold low power scopes, the Mini 14 a Leupold Vary X III 1 1/2 to 5 and the Mini 30 a Leupold shotgun scope 1x to 4x with heavy reticle.
Both have lasers, and TACM III lights with remote pressure switch. (one with a ref filter for coyote shooting)

I did own one once [ my pre AR days] and was happy with it,although I never really tried to wring much performance out of it.

I owned one of Rugers .44 semi auto carbines ;that was a sweet handling little gun.

Ruger Mini 30 Cal. 7.62X39

IMO the 7.62X39 is not the best round for whitetail. I prefer the knock down power of a .308, but I will use this rifle when making drives and I have killed a lot of deer with this gun.

Crappy glass,,, going to half to do something about that..

If you ever do decide to sell her, let me know. I've always wanted one of those.

Well, I have the newest model of mini 14 ranch gun in stainless and synthetic, and I love it, It shoots well, very reliable, and allthough its not an AR, it is still fairly accurate, maybe i just got lucky, but I can shoot under 2 inch groups with mine at 100 yards, and I find that is more than ample to hunt with. It still isn't an AR, but it is still a very nice firearm at a good price.

Well, guys, I gave up on making my Mini accurate, and this is one of the new 580 series that supposed to be on new tooling. So, I turned her into a CQB rifle, and am much more happy. I can hit about as well with iron sights as the scope I had on it, at distances I can see anyway.

No pictures but next to my AR, Garand, and M1A1 is a SS Mini-14 with laminated stock. No glass, just iron. It is my wife's gun and while she shoots USMC expert with the AR it is best to stand still when she shoots the Mini.................If you run you will only die tired.

My wife's Mini....mini haters beware....she qualifies Uncle Sam's Misguided Children Expert with a pee shooter and she aint too bad with the mini. Me; I still prefer to reach out and touch someone with a 30-06 Garand or a 308 M1A1 or Isshy.

Anyone have a chance to try out Ruger’s new ranch rifle chambered for the 6.8SPC round?
