TJ, you hit the nail on the head, I am not looking for a stow-n-go mobile kit, but a comprehensive kit for having in the house. whether for bug-in or simply everyday accidents.

I just order 3 kits from the sportsmans guide. Did not have everything but enough of the specialty things between the 3 kits. then the every day stuff, betadine, bandaids, guaze, etc I will pick up locally and build my own kit.

My QC is sponges. I have no plans to use it except in a life or death situation. Burns would be a lot better than bleeding out.

we were issued quick clot powder and the lil plugs overseas.
the powder,unless in an absolute calm, stable enviroment is just horrible.
the plugs worked great.

the powder was used to heat mre's and make coffee. if it blows in your eyes.. its lights out.
literally.

but it was good for " tactical interrogations"

although i do not support nor condone torcher.

Although it is listed, I don't actually have the Cricothyroidotomy Kit or the blood typing kit. They are on my shopping list.

careful with the rapid cooling idea, especially if the person is unconscious already that can put a person into hypothermic shock very easily, I know of two cases I witnessed first hand where it killed people. The basic rule of any first aid kit though should be if you are not trained in the use of something DO NOT attempt to use it, therefor most ppl think that if they don't know how then they don't need it, I myself believe it is intelligent to keep some things in a kit you don't know how to use for those guys who do once they show up. But your basic bloodstoppers (btw don't use quickclot it burns the flesh around injuries and causes further damage), a blanket for shock, a handful of nasal pharangyal airways, and a handful of tourniquets, are the sheer basics

I was watching a show on first aid on the outdoor channel the other night. He said that tampons were good for gunshot wounds.

I second this and it was the first time I have seen it brought up. a good eye wash solution comes in very handy.

NS or small flushes (depending on the need) work just as good as a specific eye wash solution and are cheaper....
