I started looking for a rear BUIS for my first AR. I originally wanted a magpul MBUS, but i started looking at real steel options. I noticed the Matech BUIS are heavily discounted. Is there a reason for this? I read a few posts that mentions the aperture is pretty small. Whatever BUIS I get, i'll be using it with the vortex strikefire and a standard A2 front sight.

But these are the sights that I have found that are affordable

Matech ~$55
Magpul Mbus ~$55-60
YHM QDS ~$100
Used/New Troy flip up $110

If the Matech will get the job done, I may get that over the magpul since it's steel. Then there's the used/new troy that I found for $110. But that's double the cost. I could use the extra cash to get a DD Omega rail and get rid of the YHM LW FF tube.

Speaking of Addax, Armory members get a discount there. On the top right of the home page, click on discount programs.

You might want to look at the MI SPLP flip up sights or the ARMS 40L .

Can you show us where you can get a Matech BUIS for $55? I have never seen the real thing going for less than $100.

The Matech are said to be prone to breaking. I don't know because they were near $200 went they were the sh¡t, now they are supposedly getting sold for $55. Only way to be 100% sure is to buy them from someone in the military. I would go with the ARMS #40L or the MI SPLP. I prefer the #40L but the SPLP is a close second.

Thanks TigerStripe,

I bought the matech one for $55shipped. I'll see what the quality is like, If i'm not happy with it. I'll get something else. I just needed a rear sight to get me up and going for now.

Not sure why Colt chose to outfit their new 6940 with the Matech.
I got one when they were damn expensive, and I got to agree, it looks fragile. Don't know how fragile, though, because I haven't abused it, yet.

I have 2 of these Matechs coming this week - the real deals. I will let you know what I think after I use one...if i dont like them I will offer them in trade or for sale here on the EE - you guys have been good to me there when I needed stuff and I will unload them to you if I don't want them...

I have 4 of the MI ERS back-ups now, and have no issues with them being too small - I have them zeroed with the 0-2 aperture (the big hole). Love 'em...but couldn't resist the Matech deal I was offered so I grabbed 2.

We'll see.

I'm hoping to be able to make an educated comment on the MBUS soon. I know everyone can't afford a $100 plus rear BUIS.

I'm sure Colt wants to go with "Milspec" as much as possible. I almost bought a Matech back when I was making every gun show but I didn't see it as an improvement over my 40L. They should be ok as long as they are down when using an optic.

I bought a Matech MBUIS also. Seems to be pretty nice. I'm sure if you don't flip the sight up and down 100 times a day it will last you awhile. I hear that the small detent that holds the sight from flipping open gets worn out. Also, don't over torque the bolt holding it to the rail!!

That is exactly what happened to mine. In fairness mine was used when I got it so I don't know how much it was played with before I got it. Other than that I liked the sight thumb.gif

I hope not to have to use mine much, that would mean my optic went down.
