Last Recruit Sustainment Drill they combined class with chow, on how to eat an MRE.

They are better than I thought, much better, I keep thinking about MREs now and I want another.

I had beef patty, added a pack of bbq sauce, traded cheese spread for jelly, had 2 snack breads, nacho cheese pretzels, grape drink mix, and traded my box of mexican style mac and cheese for a cinnamon scone.

What do they put in those that make everything so good? oh yea.gif

(however, it is probably best I traded my chicken with noodles package for the beef patty package, and someone got a package of clamchowder blink.gif )

I never met an MRE I didn't like, some just more than others. The companies that make them do quite a bit of taste testing to insure they don't taste like C-rats and K-rats used to. Keep in mind they are loaded with calories, as they are meant to sustain a man in combat. Eating them on a regular basis w/o a lot of physical activity will make you expand.

Dude I dont did you have beef patty or dehydrated beef patty? There is a world of difference. If you had the dehydrated beef patty you need to get to the doctors. Those are like 15 years old and are only good for 3.

Yeah I guess the new MREs aren't to bad. I remember the dehydrated beef patty and the chicken ala king. Don't forget the ham and chicken loaf or the omelet. Eating MREs always starts out as a fun thing to do but when you have to subsist off them for a length of time you start to miss Cookie and his substandard culinary skills. On the other hand I guess MREs are better than eating Iraqi cuisine. Used to get highly aggravet when our team would go on an early morning raid with the Iraqi Army (IA) BDE we advised and we would stay out past b-fast and lunch (which is hard to do in theater cause they stay open so long). Sometimes we would head back in and have 15 minutes to hit the mess hall and the LTC comes over the net and says that we have been invited to eat with the IA. Those are the days you feel like just quitting. Thank God for jerky and our team's class 1 account (class 1 is food and water) or I wouldn't have made it.

OOOOH the chicken a la king... Haha. I liked all the MRE's I ever had cept for the hot dog one. Never could eat em 3x a day though. Usually stripped em down and ate what I could out of it when I could. But them new ones are dang good. My fav was the jambalaya one. Plus when you dumped in the lil bottle of tabasco, they were all better. After Katrina hit my folks got MRE's and my brother called me up after he ate one and asked if I could get him more...Haha.

As others have said, when MREs make up the bulk of your meals for six months they lose their appeal. That said, when you've only had two stripped MREs in a week even the Thai Chicken is a godsend.

I was in when they first came out, after a few months I'd only eat the crackers and cheese spread. Or the peanut butter if I could get the oil to mix in! Man,the good old days of Pinnapple upside-down-cake in a C-Rat! Yum!
