Okay so I got to local indoor range was curious about the can on the Glock 19 the shop had. So let's just say between that and the wather P22 the I fired, I'm hooked. there's a few caveats, I would to find one that I could used for my AR as well and not something that is going to break my bank or have a three letter agency or local LEA coming to visit me.

Info I need to know:

- Who sells threaded barrels for Glocks
- Any warnings that I need to know (possible damage)
- What to look out for

Thanks Jose

You are going to have a hard time finding a can small enough to use on a Glock, yet robust enough to handle .223 out of an AR.

Sounds like you are looking at 3 different calibers:
.22, 9mm and .223

You can shoot .22 through a .223 can or through a 9mm can, but you cannot:
1) shoot 9mm though either a .22 or .223 can, or
2) shoot .223 though either a 9mm or .22 can

If you are considering a 9mm upper for your AR, then that's a much different story, and I would suggest getting a good high efficiency 9mm SMG can that is narrow enough to use on a pistol. 9mm and .22 threads are both pretty standard at 1/2 x 28, so It's possible to mount a 9mm can onto a .22 pistol. You should check with the manufacturer about warranty issues. There is a perennial debate about the safety of shooting .22 though 9mm cans. I have seen it done dozens of times without issue, but many people say it's a bad idea.

The next problem is about cost...

A good 9mm can is going to cost at least $600 + $200 transfer tax. Once you get your can, you will likely either be stuck with it or you'll lose your shirt in a sale... I strongly recommend that you get the one you want regardless of cost. The transfer taxes make them very dificult to sell unless you sell it at a large loss.

Recently, Gemtech (Trinity) and SWR (Trident) have come out with models that are designed to accept one of three different mounts: Quick detach (like a 3-lug), threads, or a recoil booster (for use with browning style pistols).

There are several makers of quality cans:
SWR
Gemtech
AAC
AWC
TROS
John's Guns
to name a few of the most common.

I have 4 cans, and 3 of them are from SWR, one from TROS, and I like all 4.

One last note... a good .22 can is only about $300, and I would recommend looking into one of those to start with. Look into the SWR Warlock, Gemtech Outback 2, or the AAC Pilot.

Thanks, I currently own a 19 and a AR, the can I got to shoot was from AAC, used both on the P22 and 19, pretty nice, but comes with a cost (like everything else).

I did get to see the AAC m4-2000 can mounted on a Rem 700.

Then again, maybe I'm going into direction I really don't want to get started in..

AAC cans are pricy, but they are made really well. AAC has a spotty customer service rep, though. Some say bad, some say great. I have never had any personal experience with them, but I have used a few of their cans. The AAC Tactical is fairly quiet, but it doesn't have a recoil booster, so function with one USP Tac was bad, but with another USP tac it was OK.

TROS and SWR are tops in the customer service books... followed closely by Gemtech.

When I first got into NFA stuff a few years ago, I thought than a second machinegun would be a priority.... but cans are relatively inexpensive, and are great fun to shoot with. Nothing like hearing the "Phump" followed by a loud "KLANG" when shooting at steel targets. mf_popcorn.gif

But then I got my Addax Gas piston AR. Sure I still have to keep a few small replacement parts, but I'll let you kick me in the balls for every malfunction I have with my Addax GPU, thats how reliable it is!

So far we are at, hold on, let me check..... ZERO!

SWR QD3-K with 3-lug 9mm for MP5 or P9S
TROS NEmesis II with 3 lug 9mm for MP5 or P9S
SWR Warlock .22 on a 10/22 and CZ Kadet
SWR HEMS-2 .45 on a USP Tactical

I don't have posession of the HEMS yet... Form 4 mailed a couple weeks ago.

Once I take posession, I plan on a group photo. mf_popcorn.gif

I have always wanted to get into class 3 stuff. It started about 8 years ago, when the prices were a fraction of what they are today. I hesitated.. That cost me a few thousand.

Then I decided to take the plunge, but the local CLEO wouldn't even return my phone calls. That little delay was when the prices of HK sears went from $3k to $10k... I thought I was done...

But then... about 2 years ago, I came into a windfall, and was finally able to take the plunge.

i waited because everyone told me the corp transfers were fake, needed signoff, would not even attempt one. i was finally able to get a mac at a ok price now i am looking at cans. i am thinking the swr trident right now but i am not real sure about running it on the mac. if i dont get the trident i will get a gemtech viper9. i want an uzi as my next big purchase then maybe a m16.

SWR Trident is a great choice in a first can. Should be just fine on a MAC, as long as you be sure it's tight between mags. (hint: nomex gloves or at the least, an oven mitt) shifty.gif

Let me rephrase, I do not know why I typed that.

CZ which can is the best bang for the buck? I am talking quality and durability over cheaper ones that go bad.

Neil,

just about any can from one of the big 4-5 companies will last a lifetime:
AAC
AWC
Gemtech
KAC
SWR (I like this company the best)

Then, there are other companies that make high quality suppressors, but don't mass produce them, like:
TROS (gotta love Mark McWillis)
John's Guns
Bowers
etc.

I'm thinking about having a custome made, integrally suppressed rifle... but haven't landed on a build plan yet. I want something that throws a really heavy projectile that will be subsoins out of, say, a 12 inch barrel (will be SBR'd). I'm thinking something like a Ruger #1 chambered in .45-70. Not sure if it would be subsonic out of a 12 inch barrel or not. If not, it will have a longer barrel, with lots of ports that bleed into the suppressor body before the baffle stack. Kind of like how a MP5SD slows down std velocity 9mm to become subsonic. Couple all that with a high volume integral suppressor, and what a blast that'd be!

Imagine a hollywood quiet shot, followed by a huge "THUNK!" as you hit a steel plate 100 yrds down range. speedbanana.gif
