Humor this newbie, please - 10 years ago, Les Baer and Wilson Combat were highly thought of and at times, hard to acquire.

Nowadays, they're not included in the discussion of AR15's to consider....wha' happened?

Did they get left behind in the competitive race for tighter, more accurate, tech advanced systems...sort of getting lost in the shuffle

or

did they change their manufacturing standards and methods and degrade their reputation...? (Wilson still makes some of the most sought after 1911's available)

Advertising competition...?

Where'd they go....????? just wonderin'.....

thanks

I was wondering that as well. When I started looking into ARs a long time ago, the Baer was on my list. I could never find one and couldn't seem to order one so I bought a Colt

I held a Les Baer AR a few weeks ago and I was only impressed by the lack of engraving and how heavy it was. I prefered the Smith&Wessons, Bushmasters, DPMS and Colts beside it. The price was also ridiculous. If you want a custom AR, our sponsors can build one to your specs.

The problem is price and who has money.
The upper end Ars have priced themselves out of the market. You can get a well made, well fitted rifle the will hold at a MOA for under $1100. A little less for a a little more.
The high end rifle aren't worth the price.

I checked out one of the Baers at Gander Mountain, ans as everyone else has already said they are expensive. I didn't see any parts that were any better than what I can buy and put on for less. The castle nut was on backwards and not staked.

I just figured I could do better for less. But I guess the proof is really in the shooting. Too bad I can't affoard to try it out.
