QUOTE (hkriflenut @ November 10th 2005 4:14 PM) Hm. A bastardized mutant "A 1.5" AR would be sweet. A1 furnature, A2 sites and brass deflector. Pile of 20 round straight mags...and just for the mutant factor - a Tango Down pistol grip. Dude. Whoa. Remember, I'm saying this as a friend, you've got issues buddy. Serious issues that will require years of therapy. Seek help. Please.

Nothing wrong with a 20"bbl. Just not on that rifle, it needs to be a little more compact. And, there's nothing wrong with an A1, or an A2 rifle. But to start mixing stuff like that, that made baby Jesus cry.

QUOTE (B Coyote @ November 10th 2005 7:12 AM) My barrel isn't a target model. It's a Government Profile barrel (lightweight under the handguards). I did get it rifled 1/9 because it's a little more versatile with the light weight bullets I shoot. If I fed it a diet of 62 grain food, I'd have gotten the 1/7. bc BC, This is the biggest misconception going on at ARFCOM. 62 Grain is better off with 1:9 twist. You can read more about twist rate at the Ammo Oracle1:12 twist rifles cannot stabilize SS-109/M855 bullets and 1:7 twist rifles are slightly less accurate with lighter bullets and will often blow apart the thin jackets of lightweight varmint bullets. The 1:7 twist is used by the military to stabilize the super-long L-110/M856 tracer bullet out to 800 yards, but unless your plans include shooting a significant amount of M856, the 1:9 twist rate is better suited for general use.The fact is, the military uses 1:7 twist so the general public (couch commando) wants 1:7 twist. Once they have bought a 1:7 twist, they justify and say all other "Civilian" twist is no good. KNOW THE FACTS!! I'm not saying one is better than the other....just know the facts and buy accordingly.

One more tid-bit.
Opinions (Pro and Con):
1:9 is best. Why? Flexibility. It doesn't seem to have any problems throwing M856 tracers around, unless it gets really cold, it wears better than 1:7 and it stabilizes more rounds than 1:12. Additionally, 1:9 rifles, even Mil-Spec chrome chambered and barreled, can attain 1.0-2.0 MOA out to 300+ meters.
No, 1:7 and 1:8 are the best. Why? Accuracy. For heavier and longer rounds during competition shooting, 1:8 and 1:7 twists are the best for heavy 77-80 grain rounds that I use to shoot competitively at 500-1000 meters. Who needs to shoot tracers anyhow? More importantly, heavier rounds are showing very good results in terminal testing and are proving to be much better defensive rounds.
I'm not saying the ammo - oracle is a source of all knowledge related to AR15 ammo. But they have sure done a lot more homework than the average smo.

Baby Jebus can cry and whine all he wants - all he needs is a teet to suckle on, or some mashed peas, and he's happy as a clam in the sand.

You're right.
Though I had a typo. It should've read 62+ grain ammo. Like the 77 grain OTM.

I've always liked the A2 20" too. It's my favorite AR set-up. I don't care much for the A1's nor understand the appeal but to each his own. The M4gery is nice and compact but the 20" better suits my needs and demands.
The 1:9 is the most versatile and best for the general shooter that will put a large vareity of mid-weight bullets through his barrel. I do not like light-weight bullets and will not shoot any rounds below 60gr, but that's me. I also reload most of my .223/5.56.

I'm contemplating adding a compact ACOG to the rifle. I like the look of the compact models on the fixed carry handle.

Captain Barred,
Your dealer may have gotten your lower today. I would check with them Monday if you haven't heard from them by then.

This is my 20" AR that I too like to keep plain and simple. It has a RRA lower with a ArmaLite upper. I have to get rid of that muzzle brake and put a flash hider on it though.

Yeah. You need something on the end of the barrel or it looks like something's missing. As soon as I get outta dodge I'll be putting an A2 flash hider and bayonet mount on it. I'm considering putting a lightweight(standard 20" chrome-lined, maybe 1:7) barrel on it too. That swivel stud mount on the handguard is an interesting touch. What is it? And CB, I know where you shop! MUAHAHAHA! bc)

bc I wasn't talking about use. That's obvious. I'm pretty sure there's no need for a third sling swivel. I was asking about the product itself. I may consider getting one.
