The light that put Surefire on the map even after 8 years since buying my first is STILL my favorite light.

First let me say being an avid outdoorsman with a constant need of lights, I am a light fanatic. I have hand flashlights, head lamps, lanterns, and spot lights of about every shape, type, construction, and different power arrangement you can imagine, but still none holds, excuse the pun, a candle to my 6p(s). Its a light that's more than a light, its a tool. Though small in size, its output is aggressive. Not only has the ruggedness been proven over time, you can feel it in the light from the first minute you pick one up. That rugged thick aircraft aluminum body, heavy weight for its size, and thick rubber push tail switch just screams rugged. The light output is very brighter than most lights but not so bright that it will blind you making it suitable for most tasks. Its beam is not too narrow nor too wide. Though its fairly short battery life may seem as a deterrant at first, one adapts to the instant on concept using the light only when needed as its applicable. For many of us that's a new concept in lights but its a concept one adapts to very quickly. Its easy to appreciate the wisdom of a brighter light but not too bright that you use periodically has advantages over a dimmer light that's constant on.

I can't begin to count the nights my lights have seen harsh uses from cold winter rainy rainy nights in the boonies to the harsh recoil of my firearms. It is the light when SHTF, I grab for. It is the light that resides by my bed with my .45. I guess you can say, I have and do trust my life to this light.

One may ask, what can be better than a 6p? I can tell you, a 6p LED. Just when I thought Surefire would never top the 6p, they did with the new 6p LED. The new LED model has the same rugged construction, however Surefire picked up the brightness while increasing the battery life with their new high output LED. As before the light output is not too bright to use for most tasks but because the LED puts out a less uncomfortable light color its even brighter than the original for common tasks.

There's that delicate balance in a light output between enough light to temporarily blind someone but still suitable for common tasks and Surefire has hit the nail on the head. Many other lights do as well but its when it comes to that rugged feel and proven durability the 6p out shines them all even Surefires own Cadillacs. Like a rockstar made famous by his first hit, struggle as he might, he will never overcome the popularity of his first number 1 or will it ever be forgotten, Surefire will continue to try while other companies immolate.

This light definitely rocks.

Hey Tj, having both styles is the range on the led as great as the other. Most leds i have tried worked great for short range but does not have the reach.

I agree, my 6p has lasted almost 16 years and still works like a champ. If the 6p is better than the G2L's, I will pick one up.

Thanks for the info TJ

Its another of those either by accident or design about the same as the original 6p. Though the LED puts out more light, its color spectrum thus your visibility is different so it equals out.

Other than battery life, I really grab either which one is available with no real preference.

Light output and beam focus is what it is and say a 100 lumen this or that will reach out the same distance if the focus is the same. What makes a difference is the visibility may not be the same. LED's are more of a white light vs the off white yellow of the incandescent. How our eyes perceive things at distance is impacted by color or lack of color.

Technically the 6p LED puts out more light, visually farther out, I really don't have a preference thus why I've never upgraded my original 6p.

I never had a 6P, but bought the 6P LED last year (it's on my duty belt as I write this). I wanted it for the longer "run time" on the battery usage. I sure like this light - alot!
